Default Going to replace rings and go solid roller; what else do I need?

I have been having serious oil consumption problems. About 2 qts for every tank of gas. It isn't currently a daily driver so I'm just guessing but it's about that much. I'm thinking it must be the rings so I am going to replace them and go ahead and do a solid roller setup at the same time. It is currently a 422. I have a few questions though.

What size rings do I need?
Anything else I should replace while I'm in there?
What are THE BEST head gaskets to use?
I know I need new lifters, cam, head gaskets and bolts. What else? My heads have all the goodies so they should be good to go.
Let me know anything I am forgetting.

Thanks!!!

Talk to one of the sponsors. You will need an adjustable valve train (i.e. Jesel Rockers) and some very serious valve springs for one.

If you are serious about doing it, I would talk to Allan @ Futral Motorsports. He seems to know quite a bit about solid roller setups. You will need beefier springs, different pushrods, T+D rockers, camshaft, solid lifters, and modifications to the heads themselves, as well as valve cover spacers or C5R covers.

Yeah those were all things I was thinking. I think my springs are fine though. I forgot which springs they are but they are definately overkill for a hydrolic cam. Here's a pic. What do you think?

My heads had to be modified quite a bit just to get them to fit. As far as pushrods go, do I need to get thicker ones or just a different length? They're just chromoly 7.35 pushrods.

Why don't you just call MTI and ask them, since they built the motor? Depending on how radical of a solid cam you want, you will probably need new springs.

The heads have to come off and you have to enlarge the pushrod holes.

Alan from FMS is a one SR expert, I'd keep him in mind for sure.

I've been watching / learning about this as well, and can tell that the wrong combination of parts will at the least destroy valvesprings or valve seats, at the worst, well, a dropped valve wouldn't be good.

If you know for sure the spring pressure - open and closed - of your valvetrain, that would be beneficial, but I seriously doubt it's high enough for solid roller.

Thunder Racing is another one to talk to. Geoff has some good ideas on SR stuff too. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> And hopefully next week...... <img border="0" alt="[evil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />
