Default LS1 vs LQ9

I was looking for a 3rd gen small block to put in my 69. I am looking at the LS1 and the LQ9, leaning towards the 6.0 lq9. For some reason alot of the posts claim alot more power in the ls1 than the 6.0s with similar mods, especially the boosted cars. Whats up with that? I would think the lq9s would make way more power. The compression is a little lower but not much and the heads are pretty much zo6 heads with bigger chambers. What would you guys suggest? I think i can get the 6.0 cheaper too. My buddy works at a collision center, he can get me stuff. I'd be running the motor n/a for a while but i plan on boosting it later. Which do you thinks has more potential?

the compression on both the ls1 and lq9 are the same; 10.1. if your going to boost get the lq4, its 9.4cr due to its dished pistons. keep in mind the weight penality, 100lbs by going w/ the 6.0 and mod for mod the extra 20 cubes arent enough to make up for the weight.

heres a thread from someone who did the lq9 swap.

Yup, I know about those extra 100 pounds. Ideally I would pop in an aluminum block, I guess it comes down to what I can get a hold of. Since you bring up the LQ4 which I do like. Is there a difference between the lq4 and la9 bottom ends? Know the combustion chamber sizes on them? The lq4 could make a great little boost monkey.

And for all you cam people!
How would this comp cam do with a stock torque converter. Engine is a 454.

the lq9 has a bit beefier rods but i havent heard of many if any lq4 or 5.7 rod failures for that matter. cranks are the same, pistons are different; dished on the lq4 and flat top on the lq9. heads, cam, ect are all the same on both engines. chamber size is 71.06.

the 454 is standard BBC correct? the cubes should readily suck a cam that small up, i dont see much of a problem w/ the stock stall. but the better point would be; why stay w/ a stock TC *shrug*

dont know whats stopping me. I guess cause i dont totally understand them. Anyway I thought the same thing, with all the torque my 454 makes I figured it would have no problem with that cam at all, but I do have 8.5 to 1 CR and a 2.73 rear. I kinda want to get rid of the 454 because I need to start driving my camaro to school, FIU is a 50 miles round trip and that setup drinks way too much. My dad traded the car I was using to commute for a hemi ram which is no better than my car. Thats one of the reasons I want to pop in a gen III motor and tranny, and because I love the idea of an old car with FI and a turbo.
My friend is gonna give me the price for an LQ4 tomorrow so i might pick one up if the price is low enough.
Anyway thanks for the help

$1600 for a low miles 2000 LQ4 Denali engine. What you think, should I buy it? I would have to buy a new tank and a high pressure fuel pump to swap it into my car, and mounts. It's all complete, wiring and computer and accessories. Forsee any problems?
