Default Gen III 6.0L Crate Motor Hybrid

I've been looking for a cost effective way to build a LS2 not having any core or parts to start off with. How does this combo look:

6.0 LQ9 Iron Block Engine Assembly # 12499467 $3700 from here:
LS2 Block $ 1000 from here
Total $4700

Wouldn't I be able to swap blocks, use a FAST intake and TB for the LS motors with a Camaro computer with the cam sensor mod in this thread: here

Will it work? better ideas?

well you woud be missing out on the better heads (ls6), the timing chain and gears, the valley cover and the knock sensors and cam sensors as well as different manifolds.

better ideas? buy the block add an eagle stroker kit and go. Or buy the slp 402 shortblock and call it good.

Default No electronics though...

H82BBad- Thanks for the reply.

I've got no electronics to start with, no coils, no fuel injectors or rails. So I'm looking at the cheapest way to get as much as possible at once and then do the cam and head upgrades later.

I am planning on doing the same thing... I will be buying a Forged Eagle stroker rotating assembly for $2000 and an LS2 block for $1000... Total = $3000

And dropping this into my 2002 Z28... I have not decided on what heads or cam I will use... With the LS2 block out, it makes no sense to build an Iron Block stroker that weighs over 100lbs more!

Default Eagle Stroker Kits

So far you both have mentioned the Eagle stroker kits. Are you refering to the ones listed in the Group Purchases forum by the likes of AP-Engineering and Speed Engineering?

For the $1700 difference, I could prob scratch together the rest of the part I need.

My goal is 500RWHP on the motor with an extra 150HP TNT ring kit... I don't think the LS1/LS2 blocks have any trouble with this power level... As a matter of fact I think these blocks are good up till 1000FWHP...

How many aluminum block failures have we heard about???

Keith Craft is running an ad in the Jan 05 issue of GMHTP... complete 402 Iron short block for $4295 with Eagle internals or $1995 for the rotating assembly. The difference in the 6.0L iron and aluminum blocks are only about $250... there is no reason why Keith Craft can't build 402 LS2 with Eagle internals for around $4500! SLP is selling thier 402 Iron short block based on the same parts for $3600... if they are smart they should come out with a 402 LS2 for $3999... That would be one heck of a deal... I am sure this will happen over the next couple of months... In a way I am happy that my stock short block is on the way out

Default SLP should

I emailed SLP earlier in the week asking if it was an option and got a very short reply "no it's not offered". I figured since the "Big Bro" article in the December issue of Craft Craft stated that they made 580HP on the dyno that there would alot of interest in there combo. I guess time will tell. I hear that GMPP will have some new LS2 based crate engines coming our way soon.

I just spoke with Mark @ Keith Craft 972-578-3550 and they have an LS2 based 402 stroker for $5095... that's a pretty good deal

So much for me putting an Iron Block in my car... funny thing is that the LS2 is even lighter than the LS1!

IF you want stock 6.0 parts like pistons and rods drop me a PM i have 4 sets or so just lying around.

It would be a wast of money if you boght the LQ9 and also the ls2 block. 3700 for a lq9 is out of the world. I could build a bad *** motor with forged interals with that and have some cash left over. Wait i did it is on the stand right now. I am 1600 in to it right now. That is block(lq4) crank (lq4) rods (eagle) pistons and rings (diamond)

Mechine work is going to cost 400-500 dependont on how much they have to add to the crank and the block has to be bored out 145 (witch i included) and i am going to have the block vatted (sp) So 2K in a forged LQ4.

FYI my lq4 has 3k on it when i got it cost me $600

Buy the Keith Craft 402 and pick up the little stuff you need from the classifieds or junkyard. A lot of the stuff would be a waste buying a crate motor - i.e. injectors, intake, TB - your gonna want better than the crate motor stuff anyway. If you don't have a harness - go to painless and get a harness and get a junkyard PCM and get it flashed. Lots of options out there if you are willing to do a little leg work!

Default Thanks for the input

I wasn't aware of Keith Craft deal, but I'll give him a call next week.

Thanks,
