Man, there are so many variables theres no real reason to ask, just run and see what happens. I predict He could win by 3 car lengths or you could win by 10.
Stock for stock, Id say a race car driver could make the M6 quicker, but that doesnt
really mean anything.
Spray your A4 and youll win

Normally, with equal driver skill the M6 will win on identical cars. But driver skill plays a huge part in that. Since you're in the A4 T/A and he's in a M6 Camaro, he'll probably win if he can drive competently b/c his car has the tranny advantage and his car weighs less than yours (wing, lipkit, etc.)
But this is a perfect world scenario. A lot other variables to consider. You can race one day and lose and then race the next day and win.

I don't have enough experience to say, but, I read that nearly 85 percent of all dragstrip wins are with A4 cars ... as opposed to M6 cars. The key here, IMO, is a mid-high stall coverter and traction. It seems (from reading, of course) that if you can make the two cooperate and get a nice dig, the A4 wins out nearly everytime. Oh Yeah, I didn't read this from a magazine. It was from respected members here.

well yeah that is because 85% of a4 cars are built faster...you could probably count on one hand how many m-6 cars are in the 9's or really low 10's...many a4's are that way...so apples to apples...if honda's got out and race with a stock 5-speed against a a4 ls1..it's obvious who wins....by the way there is a thread a4 vs manual on the first page of the new ls1 owners page...you could've found your answer there with a simple search...since it is the same exact question

It's extremely illogical to have a manual transmission when you're running anything less than 10's. Purely from a quantitative point of view, the M6 has the advantage. Higher stock gearing, 3.42. The A4 could be 2.73 or 3.23. There are fewer horses lost through a manual transmission as opposed to an automatic. Et cetera.

It all depends. A4(stalled) cars are faster from a dig. But in street racing, M6 cars are going to be generaly faster. The m6 can get its RPM's where he/she wants them ect. PLUS, some to most street races are from a roll anyway. Unless the a4 car has a built tranny it wont down shift to lowest gear(above 45). So on the street M6, and on the track auto. Its all up to you.

The m6 has to shift four times as opposed to three a4 shifts. Most people have a hard time launching a m6. A4 usually hooks well off idle right out of the hole. The m6 usually takes the advantage at or a little before the 1/8 mile and will pull harder, hence the better mph. It should be pretty close, but a lot of it is the driver and track condition.

Actually, the M6 only has to shift 3 times (finish in fourth) versus the a4's 2 shifts. I think the m6's launch will make or break the race. Once you blow the launch on an m6, its really tough to recover the race. Also, the A4 dosnt pause in between shifts. But thats where the A4 advantage ends. The m6 has better rear gears, less parasitic drivetrain loss and stays directly in the power band. In my opinion it is possible to launch an M6 as well as a stock a4, but to do it right requires tremendous skill, since you are very close to either smoking the clutch and / or the tires. If the m6 driver is quite adept at launching hard, he will steadily pull away from the A4. If he's less than perfect on the launch, youll probably have the early lead and he'll blow by you on the back half. If the M6 totally blows the launch and smokes the tires hard, you might end up racing yourself down the track.

Not only does the M6 have better rear end gears the tranny is geared differently. The only gear the A4 has on the M6 is 1st. I still belive that the A4 is quiker if u r talking about running the same car once with each tranny. But just cause his is a M6 doesn't mean that his car is fast. All cars were made just a bit different they don't all run identical. I mean the M6 could run a perfect race but the A4 could still win if it just is faster. Its not always about the tranny diferences.

If you're talking about stock cars then the manual will be faster/quicker with the right driver. However m6 cars are less consistent than autos and not everybody knows how to drive a manual good. It's all going to depend on the other driver, if he knows how to launch and shift he'll take you. Also if you look at the bone stock cars that have run 12's you will notice that 90 percent of them have manual transmissions.
