Default My car sucks!

i just took my car from my mechanic.we (me and my mech)asked engine setup advice from Thunderracing.we want big hp s from the aluminium block and we are looking for big shots(nitrous).and they sold me 383 lunati stroker kit with a 252/254 114ls solid roller setup and NOS Noszle system.but at my first night when i took my car,i raced with a stock cu 227/224 cammed c5 and i wasnt able to have him.(no nos race at highway)
how can it be?252/254 cam is too much for 383??idont care about low rpms but i want big hps at high rpms.now im thinking of returning my old 224/224 cam.i was happy with that.no performance rise from these.

even though I am sure this post will be deleted I will respond anyway...

I had a really bad experiance with them also. I had a cam that wans't machined right and ended up giving my motor a nice dose of metal.

Thunder does know there stuff and I am sure they can spec out a good cam. There cams are right up with anyone elses power wise. You may want to look at other things like the tune. Alot of other factors play into how fast it is other then the cam.

The vette could have had a few tricks up his sleave......are you sure he only had a cam? Did he have nitrous?

LOL so you blame your results on Thunder's advice?

Performance is WAY MORE than just a cam, dude. Heads, exhaust, intake, it's a COMBINATION. Did you set the lash right on the rocker arms?

I guarantee most h/c cars would beat my car on the street. I can't get traction through 4th gear. But at the track, that's a different story.

And why so small on the cam? My 263/267 idles fine at 950 RPMs.

TR is one of the leading vendors in R&R and cam profiles.
Why don't you post all your mods and a dyno graph. Then maybe we can give you some feedback.
Avoid bashing sponsors with nonsence statements please. Especially as a newbie.

you should choose a better title if you want your posts to survive

like what was said...its all about a combination. bigger cams require tuning...have you done any of that. Has it been on a dyno... whats the timing/AF look like

what ICL did you install the cam at.

jumping in and bashing without any information is a bad thing

Thunders "phone" advice and you say they suck? You may want to learn to use grammar, spell and punctuate properly before slamming people for their "phone advice".

I doubt you and your mechanic can even put a car together...did you even tune it?

Sorry to jump in here, but I really don't remember anyone taking issue with Thunder. I have always heard good things about them.

If I found myself in a similar situation I would suspect one of the several happened:

1) Driver fault,
2) Bad tuning,
3) Suspension not matched with the power output.

Call Thunder and see what they have to say before tarnishing their reputation.

Had you of taken the car to thunder themselves and this had happened you might have more room to complain.
How do you know the vette didn't have a power adder?

There is a lot more to winning a race then nice heads, or a big cam. Like everyone said the tune/suspension/gears/etc are all important factors.
There are tons of people who just buy every part for their car that will produce HP and then wonder why the pull 2.3 60 ft times and loose to a bolton/ converter/ slick's car.

I agree with camaroholic, I had a 81 camaro back in the day that ran mid to high 12s and on the street I held my own against way faster cars but when I went to the track I had my *** handed to me.

I'd say Thunder's reputation is undamaged in this case...guy doesn't even work on his own car, has a "my mechanic" person whose skills are unknown. "My Mechanic" could be a shadetree generic Pep Boys type who knows a little about everything, w/ no specialty on the LS1.

Also no mention of software tuning which would absolutely be necessary w/ a cam this radical and the extra displacement, he told Thunder he wanted a cam designed for spray but then raced it w/o spray...so many possible glitches not under Thunder's control...

Exactly! I bought the TR224 from Thunder a long time back and they were very helpful when I couldn't decide between a 114 or 112 lsa.

you said it was the first night out after the motor install?it could be any number of things.you can't expect to just bolt something in and go fast.it's a lot harder to go fast then most people think.i gained 30 hp just from a dyno tune after my H/C install.and then i still had some drivability issues for a couple of weeks until those were sorted out.and i have a stock cubed motor with a baby cam!before bashing, make sure that thing is dialed in.

I would think you need to maximize your tuning on a dyno and then make sure your convertor/gears etc. are helping not hurting your cars performance. Its the total package matched together that gets the job done. Give Thunder a call and get them involved in your situation. I'm sure they'll help out in maximizing your performance.
