Exclamation 1 More Cam Advance question from me....

If you have advance ground into a cam, will it increase the LSA of the cam?

Example: You have a cam with a 116lsa and you add 2 degrees of advance, will the LSA become a 118lsa cam?

Doesn't adding advance spread the lobes just that many more degrees apart?

Thanks Guys....

Bill

LSA will stay the same. Advancing or retarding changes the ICL (intake centerline)

When you advance, you take away from the ICL. 112 +4 = a 108 ICL. A 112 -4 would be 4 degrees retarded and equal a 116 ICL.

How would you factor a cam with +2 degrees of advance when determining the overlap? Or does it not have any relevance to the formula?

people get so caught up in the numbers that they forget to look at the entire curve. typical can't see the forest for the trees.

You mean they can't see the forest when they are in front of the tree.

nope. meant it that way. there are other things in a forest than just trees. just like dyno sheets. there are more things to look at other than just the peak numbers.

Man I love your sig. lol

If you are in front of the tree but can't see the forest it mean you can't think geometrically. You are to focused on a single point (peak #) and can't take in the whole picture. Don't you hate it when you grow up and your Dad is sooo right.

same with flow numbers. session 1 is my old head and session 4 is my reworked head. if one were to only look at .600 they'd say the old head was better. but looking at the whole picture on can see the new head kicks the **** out of the old . same bench, same operator, same conditions.

* numbers removed to illustrate a point

and back to our scheduled cam discussion
