Default Do Mac Headers need to come all the way out for head install?

Do the macs need to come all the way out to get at the bottom head bolts or will they drop down far enough when unbolted? This is on a 98 Trans Am.

From past experience, I'd jack up the car just a tad, take the header bolts out and just let the headers down & it should be more than enough clearance to remove the heads. Worked just fine when I removed my hooker lt's to get to the heads on my 99.

in truth i havent heard of anyone haveing to take out there headers just to install heads...
but if you are planning to swap heads that is a great time to install nicer headers... since you can drop them right in

I took them out when I did mine, The Mac's will go in from the top. Just take them loose at the ball flanges and pull them out, it makes the head swap a lot less cluttered.

For some reason, mine were a bitch to put in from the top. That's why I wasn't looking forward to doing it again. The thought of installing long tubes when the heads are off is not a bad idea. I should've asked Santa to bring them today It's good to know that I don't HAVE to pull them out to do the heads. Thanks guys.

Mine were a bitch to drop in, as well ... even with the coil packs removed.
