The ones on their site are hand race polished, I believe. For the street unpolished head bowls are better for fuel combustion ( to do W/ atomisation & distribution.)
That spark plug bung area could be smoother though.(you could do that yourself with a grinder and a steady hand)

I wouldn't touch them just install them and enjoy the new found performance.

I thought all of MTI's heads had a .030 mill from the shop. Did you ask them not to do it? Double check!! My 2E's have a .030 mill and the chambers are about 58cc's on a 5.3 head.

FWIW, when I ordered my Stage IIR LS6 heads, they told me that they will automatically mill .030 unless you specify otherwise.

Everything looks good but am surprised that they do not polish out the combustion chamber on a stage 2 job.

When I ordered, they (MTI) would absolutely NOT mill the heads, ANY! David told me they had too many problems with customers installing their milled heads and having PtoV issues...

Head bowls? The combustion chamber? Looks to me like the "Bowl" the area just before that valve in the port is worked.

As for the sparkplug bung why bother with it? It is placed there to help control mixture movement, removing it will lower your CR and you will gain no increase in power from everything I have seen.

Maybe I'm out of the loop now but I still have seen no good data on removing this.

It is a good idea to "break" all sharp edges with a light abrasive. This helps reduce the chances of hotspotting which can lead to pre-ignition or detonation.

Good luck with your new combo!

Apparently, they have changed their policy...I ordered my heads in spring 2003, so it's been a while.

With the trend moving towards larger camshafts and PTV becoming an ever increasing issue, we do not mill heads down anymore as a standard practice.

The gains that you see from milling are very minimal (approx 1.5% HP gain per point of compression) so if you milled a set of heads thirty thousandths, you'd gain 1/2 a point of compression which would equate to a gain of approx. 3 rwhp on a 400 rwhp car.
