they are in the middle of testing the AFR 205 heads on a stock 03 corvette. here are some of the results. stock, the motor put down 279.3 rwhp and 298.5 rwtq and ran a best of 13.54 @ 102.40 on stock goodyear runflats. after only adding the heads and no tuning, the car put down 318.8 rwhp and 335.8 rwtq with a best run of 12.96 @ 107.41. that's a gain of 39.5 peak rwhp and 37.3 rwtq!!! ET drop of .58 and mph gain of 5 mph!!!!

I want to be the first (in this thread) to say that AFR heads rock. 5mph (unsure of DA...) and 40rw with heads ONLY...stock manifolds, stock tune, stock cam. Awesome. Period.

Thanks Vinci for the independent testing...and for testing the right way.

Weren't the dyno runs made in 2nd gear? You probably want to edit your #1 post.

Otherwise, very, VERY impressive results. A true apples to apples comparison (for once).

I just copied the above from VINCI site. and that is the info we have so far for reference.

More info needed:
1> DCR
2> SCR
3> quench #'s
4> Dyno graphs of all tests (with Air Fuel Ratios)
5> any other info on the heads beside milling?? Port size, flow sheet etc...

Is there a sheet you can post showing the actual before and after graph? I'd also love to see the before and after A/F.

nope 3rd gear runs. that's why i closed off the first thread. roger thought it was in 2nd when we were talking last night. he looked on the dyno graphs and the notes read 3rd gear runs. all info i have posted in this thread is correct.

roger vinci is by himself at the shop right now. graphs will be up as soon as he has some time to scan and upload. now here's what people are going to whine about. he still uses the original DOS based dynojet 248E inground. the original DOS doesn't graph the A/F ratio. it uses a meter you have to watch. but i'll ask him what the a/f ratios were.

heads are untouched by vinci. as far as i know, no other porting has been done by AFR other than what they send them out as. which has been posted on this site by tony mamo.

Here we go again. I can not understand why there is so much counter productive “B.S.ing on these forums. Information shared, should be helpful and productive. That being said. Here is the straight stuff. I have observed, tested, designed, ported, flowed and installed a st” load of cylinder heads on vehicles. I can honestly say I have never seen better set of street heads come off a manufacturer’s shelf. The finish work is excellent. The results speak for themselves, on the dyno and more importantly at the drag strip. You guys can beat up the process verbally all you want , but the fact still remains the heads produced 39 rwhp and 37 ft lbs tq., without any extra tuning, or other mods. Furthermore they knocked a half second off the 1/4 mile ET, and added 5 miles per hour. When a client asks me for a set of street heads, I am going to recommend AFR heads. Please know this, I have been building and selling my own heads for 40 years. I am confidant I build some of the most powerful heads on the market. Our large runner heads make super power but they take a long time to develop and they have a limited application list. Take it from me, AFR builds a great head. Buy them! End of story! Roger Vinci

Roger...

Very well said and we certainly respect your opinion and appreciate your "enthusiam" for the product. To all the "haters", "negs", "disbelievers", and the "glass half empty" guys let me remind you that ALL of the results you are guaging your opinions on are based off of our 205 STREET heads which have met and exceeded all of AFR's expectations. Prior to my personal vehicle, there were few, if any, cars on this planet with a 224 street cam legitamately exceeding 475 RWHP. Now there are dozens of AFR 205 mild cam combinations clearing 450 routinely and the guys pulling out all the stops (FAST 90, Mezeire WP, etc.) are making 470 plus with conservative cam timing. A friend of mine that copied my combination to the letter but installed a cam 10 degrees larger put up 490 + RWHP on three different dynos in the LA area. For christs sake, one of the sponsors here just posted 450 RWHP/ 428 Ft/Lbs that passed emissions with flying colors (and I guarantee will get the owner of the vehicle another 2-3 MPG if he keeps his foot out of the throttle). The bottom line is that most of the AFR 205 results have been average to outstanding....did any of you ever consider that the "average" results just might have been poor combinations, valve float issues, or pick any of the ten other reasons "average" results usually show themselves. The "professionals" that do this on a more frequent basis and who usually don't fall into the pitfalls your backyard "internet trained" mechanic might, have been consistantly producing results well above average.

The 205 head is a GREAT STREET HEAD, capable of producing results meeting or exceeding the BEST factory ported heads out there, all while giving the owner the added benefits of better fuel economy, increased low and midrange torque (and horsepower), and higher quality, stronger castings. Not to mention EVERY set you get will give you the same exact results...unlike most of the "handrubbed" cylinder heads that you can only pray are reasonably close from one cylinder head to the next. One of our dealer/installers, who's name will go un-mentioned, had to occasionally send back sets of his ported factory castings when he dyno'ed a "tried and true" combination and all the tuning in the world couldn't yield him numbers he was accustomed to. Send the heads back for some more "massaging", bolt them back on the motor and "presto", that missing 20 HP found its way to the rear tires. He loves the AFR heads not only for the additional power they provide, but for the consistancy of his results as well. What if your doing this out of your home garage (as most of you are) and didn't have the luxury of knowing your cylinder heads were weak and costing you precious power which you expected and paid for???

The AFR 205 heads aren't for everybody....just the customers that want a broad and "factory" like power curve, better fuel economy, and pretty damn impressive peak numbers as well. For you guys wanting more (seems like the entire LS1 Tech community), wait just a little longer till the 225's hit the pavement and hopefully the results will keep your complaining to a minimum.

How's this...I have high hopes my current shortblock with just a swap to 225 heads and a SLIGHTLY larger camshaft that still has good street manners will crack 500-510 RWHP with full belts, 390 gears, "heavy" 18" rims with 305 tires, and no missing driveline components to artificially inflate the chassis dyno numbers. No tricks or BS....pure street trim, putting that power to the ground just the way I drive it around every day. Wait....I can hear it already....everybody is doing that with a stock GM shortblock @ 11 to 1 CR with a medium sized camshaft.

You guys are a tough crowd....the owner doesn't even read these posts any more cause it upsets his stomach (NO JOKE)....If any of you had half a clue the lengths we go thru, the "short-cuts" we never take, to try and produce for you guys the best "out of the box" bolt on cylinder heads....

For all the "glass half full" guys...Thanks for your support

one thing i see on here all too often is that people are stuck on peak horsepower numbers,or power in the upper rpm range.from what i've seen, the AFRs don't make that much more peak horsepower(if any at all)than "brand x" or "brand y" heads but they do seem to have a broader power range, especially in the lower rpm range, where you want it on a street car.PEAK NUMBERS AREN'T EVERYTHING.just my .02

Based on the test results and comments by Roger I too am sold on the AFR heads. I am waiting on the results of the Cam rocker switch like everyone else. Also waiting to see the results of the Xer cam and 1.7 rockers vs the Crane cam with 1.8 rockers test. Based on the design of the rockers and there use so far I am pretty much sold on them also. If you are building a new engine you might as well spend a little more up front and do it right the first time. Thanks to all involved in this test. Its been very informative. Good Luck to all.
