Default LS6 in my SS???

Hey everyone i was just wondering, i have a 99 SS with a T-56. My car has like 103K miles on it, the trans was just rebuilt by Speed Inc. So i was wondering, i dont wanna spend major major money, and i still want something very reliable as this is my only car, so would it be a good idea to put a used LS6 in my car? I figure 405 horse motor cant be bad, plus i can still put mods on it like my borla exhaust, some headers, and as i save more and more money i could eventually put heads and a cam. So basically I was just wondering what everyone in here thinks about putting an LS6 in a SS. Thanks

It can easily be done, you will just need to use your camaro's oil pan.

It would be cheaper/easier to install heads and cam on the LS1 you have. Or have it rebuilt and have those parts installed. No need to go buy an LS6 when you can have a 0 mile built LS1

I would just keep the engine you have now, as long as there are no problems with it. The LS6 engine makes more HP over the LS1 because of the heads and cam (pretty much, and the LS6 intake which you don't have because your car is a 99). So if you're going to put the LS6 engine in and upgrade the heads and cam later on, why don't you just upgrade the engine you have now and save your money? That's what I would do. 103,000 miles on a LS1 is not a lot if the engine has been taken care of.

The LS6 engine might be a good idea if you can get it cheap and have it put in cheap. My .02

Well see the thing is im not looking into a brand new one, i was looking into a used one. I was talking it over with one of my dads buddies, and hes a mechanic/ bodyman, and he assures me he could get me a VERY LOW mileage, great condition LS6, and install it and everything. I was just curious what everyone thought of doin this

If you can get a good deal on it and have it installed properly for cheap, then I say go for it!

best idea for stock displacement IMHO. can't do much better even if you upgrade the rods at the time of build.
