Default just installed new cam WOW!

I started friday night about 5 and had it all back together by sat about midnight. I also installed hooker lts a y pipe. this was my first cam install. to anyone about to do their cam, i've got a couple of tips. First if you want to save yourself some time and pain get yourself an air rachet, that one tool alone would probably have saved me 3-4 hours. Also I bent the small pulley puller from autozone in about five seconds. Went back and got the larger three arm puller and it worked like a charm. Finally, get the valve spring compressor from sears, the one with the **** on top, you will thank me later. Oh by the way I got the ASA cam and it sounds AMAZING!

I'm not sure about the rwhp,I'm still too chicken to "get on it" but either its my imagination or this thing feels stronger even in the lower rpms I know this cam should make most of its power in the upper rpms, but it feels like I gained everywhere.

I had the stock LS1 cam, And I put in the ASA cam 226/236 .525/.525 110LSA. When I first cranked it up it wouldn't even stay running. I feathered the throttle and held it at 1500 RPM's for a few minutes, Ever since then it has idled perfect and hasn't died one me once.

I'm looking into getting that cam.
My car is my daily driver. Is the lope livable for commuting? I hear it's wicked nasty. Curious.
I have an M6.

So many people told me don't get that cam it's too nasty for the street. I just decided that if I was going to take apart my brand new motor I was gonna go big. The ASA is perfect for me cause its big enough but has low lift so it won't wear out my valvetrain. To be honest, its not nearly as rough at idle as I thought it would be,also hardly any surging and it doesn't die at lights. But on the other hand you can literally feel the concrete shaking beneath your feet when standing outside the car

383,

What else did you upgrade in the swap? Springs, pushrods?

thats another great thing about this cam, you can use the 2002 LS6 springs, which I did. With such a low lift you don't need to change pushrods. Just swap the springs pput in the cam and put it back together.

That's awesome. Please get some video or sound clips as I know there are quite a few who would love to hear what that cam sounds like. Also, make sure to get it dynoed so we can see the gains. I would especially like to know where this cam peaks and where the shift points would be.

hey Mike, I have read some of your posts in the past asking about the ASA cam. The whole time I had mine waiting to go in. People don't like this cam for some reason and I remember reading those posts of yours and feeling like I made the wrong choice. You know its like I said earlier, If your gonna go through the trouble get something big or else you will just go bigger next time. Oh yeah, I'm going to get a sound clip tonight if I can figure out how. Let me tell you I have hooker LT's ory and loudmouth and it sounds exactly, I mean EXACTLY like the video clip of Ragemans G5X2 cam. I beleive its in the media forum if you haven't already heard it.

I don't know if I could pass a sniffer test if I put the cats back on, but it may be possible, I've heard of someone else on this board who beat the test on the second try, but I can't remember who it was. I have the good fortune to live in alabama, where an unmuffled SBC gets you a pat on the back from local police. HA HA.

the video clip I'm talking about is a white Z28 slowly backing out of the garage. When I first cranked my car That was the first image that popped in my mind. As for the idle, I have no tuning and it idles at about 800 the best I can tell. When I crank it up it searches for about 5 seconds the settles into a perfect lope. It has never stalled while driving, and doesn't really surge at all. From everything I've been told I should be living a nightmare right now but it just goes to show you can't believe everything you read or hear. Also every car is different. I am pretty computer illiterate but my wife said she would help me get the sound clip tonight.

well, that is great to hear. and i also agree that there are SEVERAL people that just have no freakin idea what they are talking about. there is a guy around here that works on NOTHING but ls1's and then SEVERAL sponsors told me that this cam will not work, and that it wont idle, and blah and blah...well, i told one of the sponsors the other day at a big car meet that i wanted to get this cam and he said that it would NEVER idle, then i said, well, im not trying to be a smart ***, but have YOU ever seen this cam in a car before, and he said no-- but that he was SURE it would never idle. omg... i am sooooo gonna rub it in their face in about a month!!!! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" /> i freakin can not wait. be sure to tell us of any problems, or tricks that you have to get the car to idle and run good... im sure that tuning will help GREATLY!!

hey I think that the sponsors on this board are great and I will continue to buy speed parts from them. I think they push their cams more simply because it doesn't make sense for companies with their own cams to recomend a GM cam. I was torn between the ASA and the TR 230, the deciding factor was I don't want to change springs everyu year, and if you have ever changed them you know what I mean. I finished up saturday night and my hands and forearms look like I got them caught in the garbage disposal. There is no way I'm going through that every 10'000 miles. The bottom line is this: Get the cam you think is best, that way you get the credit or the blame. Don't take someone elses word on a cam and then wish later you had gone with your gut. Who knows I may change my mind tommorrow, but for today the ASA rocks!
