Default awesome 347 or ok 408

i have about 5-6 k to spend on a new motor and was wondering should i just get a 347 and get some bad *** heads and cam or a 408 with some patriot ls6 heads and cam?? becuase ill have to sell my old 5.3 heads and other things anyway to help pay for everything,

i just cant make up my mind, if the 408 will be worth all the extra money if i only run about .2-.3 faster than i would with the 347 with really good heads... just need some other opinions... thanks

i don't think you can build a 408 for only 5-6k...i'd go with 347 though either way

What are your goals? I'd personally do the awesome 347.

even if you make the same peak power with the 347 the 408 will make more under the curve power even with a lesser set of heads and cam.

Why not have someone rework your PP Stage 2 5.3's? That would be potentially be cheaper than buying a new set of heads.

For a decent 408 with a PP LS6 Style head, New Cam, Lifters, Rockers, Gasket etc.. you're proably looking at $7000 + when its all said and done.

Personally I would go with a 383. Keep the alum. block for weight and still get great power under the curve like JRP mentioned. However, if you want the 408 save up and get what you want. By the time you have the extra cash to pay for what you want you will have had enough time to think about it and know for sure if what you want will make you happy. Good luck either way.

Depend of your application:

Street car/daily driver : go with the 408 (low/mid tq is your friend)

Drag car : all-out 347 with a big shot of NOS (peak hp is what you need)

what's wrong with the shortblock you got now?

btw, i'd go with the slp 402, i believe it's rapid motorsports that said they've already done a couple installs and put out some good numbers with them.

so did mine. i ended up building a high compression forged 347. it was the only thing in my price range. i'd of opted for the bigger cubes if i could.

I say if you got reliable transportation and some time to get things together, never shoot yourself in the foot and bye something that you are settling for. I have in the past and only wish that i could go back and do things differently. I say, buy a beater truck if necessary, save some cash, and then when time and cash is available, get what you REALLY want!

Lol, I was about to recommend the 347 that FFHP is offering. Outstanding deal.

exactly

if it's a daily driver, you'd make a huge mistake to go all out on a 347
