AAP 388 baseline dyno results 487 rwhp/457rwtq
Finally got the 388 dynoed today. I was impressed to say the least with the initial runs on the car. The O2 sensors were crapping out making the car very hard to tune . The first pull was 478rwhp/451 rwtq, Mark @ AAP tuned it to 487 rwhp @ 6250rpms and 457 rwtq@ 4800 rpms SAE corrected. Again I was impressed because the 02's were acting up. I was glad to see that the peak was around 6200 rpms, going with the bigger cam on a 114 lsa I thought that it might peak very high. Toruqe @ 3000 rpms was 350 then peaked at 4800, stayed flat until 5500 then slowly dropped off. I will post the dyno sheet as soon as I get it scanned. I also want to note that these runs were made with no dyno tricks, 315's in the rear, 12 bolt with 4.33's, 3.5" Cromoly driveshaft, McLeod Twin Disk Clutch, all belts, etc. I'll list the setup for everyone:
AAP 388cid engine (4.125 bore x 3.622 stroke)
LS6 Block
JE Flat top Pistons
6.125" Rods
AAP Stage III 6.0 heads (352 cfm @.600" intake, 242 cfm @.600 exhaust) 11.6:1 CR
AAP J2 Cam 243/250 .610/.612 114 LSA
Grot 1 7/8 headers, dual cutouts on the Y
KTRE 12 bolt with Richmond 4.33's
The great thing about this setup is that it's very driveable, actually this is currently my only car and I drive it daily to work and else where (I'll be getting a beater soon). The motor has about 600 miles put on it since Thursday and has not leaked a drop of coolant, I don't regret going with an expensive Darton setup because AAP really knows what they're doing when it comes to their motors. I can't wait to get it to the track, but I need to get a cage installed and am in the process of going with a beefier T-56 (auto's suck). Thanks a bunch to Mark at AAP, we will be going back shortly for some more dyno runs and hope to see 500rwhp out of the setup.

Wow, kick butt numbers! Id love to see the dyno graph too, want to see what going with a much bigger cam could do for my 388, and see the effect if any down low and midrange.
Very cool, congratulations!

EZSS, I don't have the dyno sheet in front of me but last night looking at it I don't think I was making 400 rwtq as low as you as were, so I definitely think the bigger cam cost me some low end but it made up in the the top end. Good news too, I think we finally found out why we couldn't get the 02 to read, I was running the stock! 99 injectors, they are rated at like 24 lb per hour and I think it was maxing them out, we are swaping them for some SVO 30# injectors next week and will be going back to the dyno hopefully looking for a 500rwhp pull. I'll keep you all posted.

Taking the car in tomorrow to get dynoed. We now have the 30# injectors on so hopefully the 02's won't act up and we will be able to tune the car and get some better numbers. I'm in the process of getting the 487/457 dyno sheet scanned in and should have it up later today. Thanks.

whats the higest compression ratio you want for a daily driven car that will see 15 thousand miles every year?
also, how much hp is gained through higher compression? Lets say going from 10.6 to 11.6?

Re: AAP 388 baseline dyno results 487 rwhp/457rwtq
I think the rule is 10 rwhp for every point of CR, I could be wrong though. FWIW I'm running the current compression with 91 octance gas, we had to pull a lot of timing in order for it to not ping, it drives fine on the street, it's currently my only car

I noticed from your mods that you have the stock MAF? I know that caused a major tuning problem with the 422 Joe did for someone -- this might be a problem for you as well. Might want to think about upgrading that with all the other money spent on the car...
