Default Bad Motor?

I just checked the compression on a few cylinders. Couldn't do it while it was warm so these are cold numbers.

1-Couldn't get a good reading, spark plug hole is either stripped or has too much crap in it, i could hear the compression leak out of the plug hole.
3-125
5-145
7-115
2-155
4-140
6-140
8-you know how that is

What is the minimum and maximum compression range?

I noticed oil on plugs 7, 8, 6, and 4 IIRC I know for sure 7 had oil and at least two from the other side had oil on them.

just curious, how do you go about checking the compression?

Take all of the plugs out. Disconect the fuel pump fuse and coil packs. Hook up the compression gauge into one of the spark plug holes. Floor it and crank for about 4 turns. Then go read the gauge.

i would notgo with the numbers you just said....2 reasons....
1. right in your post you said you could not get a good seal... this stuff takes time to do boss man... if you want a good reading, break out the wire brush and a little gas and scub the holes out so you CAN get a good seal... then retest.

2. your readings are all pretty low and scattered.... when you get a good test on them, you should not worry so much as to HOW MUCH compression is in each, but more that they are all within 5-10% of eachother for instance you have 115 on one and 155 on another... that is about 30% differance.... that would be VERY bad if your test was good...

try it again...
best of luck i hope it turns out for the best

everything sealed fine. Just cylinder #1 has crap in it or something. It is the only one i didn't get a good seal on. Even with the bad seal it had over 100 on the gauge. I think #7 has something wrong with it. Just because it also had oil on the plug. But then again so did two or three from the other side which showed 140.

I changed the plugs and have the 10-bolt out of the car. Now I just need the 12-bolt and I'll be ready to go.

when are you getting the 12 bolt? what happened with the 8.8?

your numbers on the compression test do seem low. i checked my old posts, and mine were 205psi. why did you decide to do a compression test anyway?

i think if he had tested it with the motor warm it he would have numbers about 200ish....

but there is definatly too big a differance from highest to lowest.... has it been blowing smoke at all? burning oil?

nope...burning very little oil. Maybe 1/2 quart every 3000 miles. 8.8" is going to take 3 weeks, I can't wait that long. So looks like I'm getting a 12-bolt. I did the compression test because I had NOTHING to do and my car is down with the rear-end out of it. I pulled the valve covers to check the springs. I also changed the spark plugs so I figured since it has so many miles on it I would do a compression test while the plugs were out.

How are you gonna do the compression test with the motor being hot. It would burn the crap out of you.

how have you never heard of that???

and since you have so much free time and just randomly pull heads and rears and do compression tests, i think ill just drop the formula off for some service when i come down to Fl. lol

jaber...my compression test wasnt done when the motor was hot, and i got 205...

haha, I usually don't have so much time, but when the car is down for a week, it's not hard. I had all day today free, and nothing to do. So I found something to do.
