Default Gasket question *somewhat urgent*

Well im getting down to having my car running again...and here is the question...So i was working on the car and got distracted and forgot to put the lifter keepers back in and my friend went ahead and Tq'd down the head with out realizing that they werent in there, a few hours later we realized that we both are a couple of dumbasses and didnt put the lifter keepers back in...(save the **** talking i already know im a dumbass for doing that)...so the question is the gasket still re-usable? did Tqing it down mess it up? the car was never fired with these gaskets on either...Thanks alot

What type of gaskets? I did something about the same when doing my heads swap. I pulled the lifter trays out to inspect everything. I reinstalled them and torqued them to spec and then my mind went blank. I was in the process of torquing down the heads when I could not remember if I had torqued down the lifter trays. I'm sure it's happended to alot more people than just us.

IMO I would get new gaskets. I've heard of people reusing MLS gaskets with no leaks but it's not worth it. Eat the cost of new gaskets and you won't be pondering at night wondering when your headgaskets might start leaking.

No problem with any of the MLS style gaskets (GM or Cometic)....even low mileage gaskets that were on a running motor could be reused, but I would prefer new in that situation.

Bolt those heads back on the engine....

gaskets are ok but what about the bolts what bolts are you using. if gm do not reuse. you are taking a big risk on braking one and that is not fun.
