Default Anyone up for a 231/234 .644/598 112LSA hydraulic cam?

The mod bug got the best of me this weekend at Thunder Racing. After running 411 rwhp with stock manifolds and cats with the CheaTR cam (215/230 .600/.578), we added Kooks headers and catted y-pipe and made 433 rwhp and 399 torque. Since the car was no longer as stealthy with the Kooks headers, we went ahead tried out a bigger cam.

Thunder Racing has a new line of cams aimed at the hard core strip warriers. The first one is the TRak cam (Thunder Racing ass kicker). Check out the specs: 231/234 .644/.598 112LSA. Although we could have shimmed the springs that came stock on my AFR 205s, we went ahead and swapped to Comp 921 (for added rev ability).

The results are in the dyno graph below. Keep in mind, this was done with catted Kooks y-pipe and SLP Dual Dual in place. Dyno temps were 99 degrees. Since we picked up around 10 rwhp with the cutout, this leads me to believe that running an off-road y-pipe would lead to similar increases in power (for another 10). A better exhaust (HVMC headers, true duals) would certainly give better gains.

The TRak cam compares closely to the FMS F-13 except the TRak cam has 1 degree less of overlap at .006" and the TRAK cam has about 6 degrees more duration on the intake at .200" lift. Sucker revs like a ****! Street manners are great. Not very noisy either.

"TRAK"....

Gotta LOVE the cam lingo!

Hats off to you and all the guys at Thunder Racing that have been thrashing lately on your F-Body for what seems like a week straight!!

All of the results were impressive and the info shared from all the testing gives everyone some food for thought.

The stroker is coming when??

(Can you say "bitten by the mod bug"!)

Wait, so the 454 was with the cutout open? It does seem to be down on power a tad. Should be a hoot to drive, though.

Cam is ground (+2). No P to V issues with stock unmilled heads. Maximum lift occurs when the piston is at the bottom of the block. It's the duration that makes piston to valve clearance tight with some cams.

I'll take 454 with cats and a D/D muffler/tailpipes.

Have you tried it with your NEW NX MAF nitrous system yet? Or is the MAF plate too small for a combo like yours?

Now that I've switched to the larger 85mm MAF, I can no longer use my 75mm NX MAF kit. But since I have the Racetronix fuel system and larger injectors, I can start using a big dry shot whenever 455 rwhp starts feeling slow, LOL.

Damn Patrick....you're just havin FUN with that car. Must be nice to leave your car at the shop and just keep swappin stuff around

Congrats on the awesome results. That cam looks kinda like my F13 like you said.....except with a good bit healthier dose of duration on the intake!!

Those are awesome peak #'s, but I have a question. It looks like you've lost a lot of power under the curve. How does torque feel just putting around town? I know that under racing conditions you'll spend time in the higher RPM where that cam outperforms the CheaTR cam, but the CheaTR looks like a more "all around" cam. I haven't driven either cam, so I really have no frame of reference. I am just trying to get a "feel vs feel" comparison.

.644 on 1.7 or 1.8 rockers? The exhaust is a standard XE-R. However, the intake is one spicy meatball. I wonder how long those springs will last.
