What Cam?
Lookin to put a cam in my 98' Ls1 TA, wondering what is the baddest streat cam out? I would be spraying nitrous every once in a while so i would want something that reacts well to nitrous but is still a mean *** cam without. Also i do drive the car daily to work and more so i need reliability.

I would start by suggesting a X2 on a 112
After that an X3 on a 112
If you are really wanting to go to the limit with a custom setup, give us a call and we'll get you set up with a package thats right for you.
Ask around there are a lot of them out there so you can get some personal responce. I would look up I8AFORD, he is running one of our X2 cams in his car now and is real close to dipping into the 10s.

I believe he was going to the track last night but I have not heard from him as to the results.

You need more converter to run the larger cams well. Vig gives one free restall, correct? I'd just send it right back (unless it hasn't left yet) and get the stall upped to what vig calls 3200.
Then look into something the size of a G5X3/4, Futrals FM1 (ron jeremy, I think), MS3, etc.

Vinci in florida does alot of work with Crane. You can also buy a crane programmer that will have the tune in it for your cam.I know this doesnt replace a dyno tune, but at least you can drive your car indefinately and the tune from the handheld will be close.

IMO: Do not waste your money on a handheld. Get a proper hands on dyno tune or buy something good like hptuners and do it that way. You probabyl will not want to daily drive a large cam that has one of four pre existing tunes punched in and you won't maximize your power potential that way either.

might want to look up fedz who just posted he results with the vinci cam and handheld tuner they used to tune it with. IMO: for those that don't have access to a local dyno tuner, and/or do not have the desire to or want to learn hptuners, and the others, get the vinci tuner. i used it on the wife's car after putting heads on and gained 17 rwhp.

hmmm mail order tune from comp cams. didn't know they did that. didn't know TR, or any of the others out there, did either. hmmm the vinci tuner with programs for their cams, or just about any other cam out there within the same specs, with one of their cams is worse than getting a mail order tune from someone that doesn't even design and test cams.
some background on the tuner for you.
http://www.stealthram.com/vhptuner.htm
over 28 cars and 1000 hours dyno and driveability were done to create this tuner. can you say that about the mail order tuner?
this ain't your ordinary HPP3 or DIABLO.

i would go w/ something in the 230's duration on a 112. TSP's 231/237 or SPEEDINC's 231//237 make great power and sound badass but they're not too crazy that you couldn't daily drive them.

Pretty impressive to get 400+hp out of a VHP handheld with a 220/224 cam. I know that I have had very good results with mine, picked up 8mph with the addition of the AFR's. Like mrr23 said, when you can't get to a dyno to do a full tune, its nice to be able to get very close with the handheld.

Fact is that hands on tuning is the only way to go to get it right, espeically with the larger cams he is looking at.
I wouldn't get the 231/237. Check out it's replacement, the 233/239 R2.
FWIW: I daily drive the MS3 (237/242 .603/.609 113) with a 4k stall and it works great.

i'll agree that a dynotune with your car specifically is the best way. but, don't discount what the vinci handheld can do. you just can't group all the handhelds into one basket anymore. and the vinci handheld max cam they suggest it can handle is a 228/232 on a 112-116 LSA. yes, there are limits to what it can do.
you don't need a big cam to make big power either. pick the right combination, and it'll serve you well.

I just simply wanted to let the correct facts be known as to whether Thunder Racing does mail order tuning or not. I wasn't trying to be a smartass or anything of the kind. If you knew or not isn't the point, if I read it to say that TR doesn't offer mail order tunes, I'm sure others will as well. I just wanted to set the record straight. I really wasn't wanting this to turn into a flame fest.
