Starting My Cam Install Tomorrow...wish me luck.
Starting tomorrow afternoon, never done it before. I am going by the directions on ls1howto. I do have someone coming over that has done it a million times, just not on a C5.
I am installing:
TR224/224
LS2 Timing Chain
LS2 Oil Pump
Comp Cams 918 Springs
New oil pressure sending unit(the third one).

i just finished my cam install last night and it went very smooth no real hang ups except for the UPS guy taking forever.Tap all your valve spring retainers with a hammer so your keepers dont go flying off when you lossen the spring up.And be sure to center your oil pump around the crank snout.also look up the torque sequence and specs for the oil pan, this will help ensure it doesnt leak.good luck and torque everything to the correct spec.Aluminum threads are nothing like steel.

Don't depend on Lady Luck. She is unreliable. I'm sure you've already read the horror stories here told by people that hoped she would pay them a visit and she turned out to be a no show. If you're going to hit the spring retainers with a hammer to loosen the keepers make sure it's a lite rubber mallet and put some shop rags around the heads to catch the keepers you drop. Those little devils are very slippery. When you litely tap the retainers with that hammer have a magnet at the end of the valve stem and the keepers will both jump right onto it. As was mentioned aluminum is much softer than steel. If your not going to use a torque wrench on the oil pan fasteners I'd use a 1/4" drive ratchet (3/8" tops) to do the turning. Just snug those fasteners all finger tight before you begin to torque any of them. You do have two bolts at the rear of the pan that are there to pull the pan up against the bellhousing. You need to snug those before you tighten down on the others because if you don't and there is a gap between the pan and the bellhousing you may well need to give Lady Luck a call. If you leave a gap between the front face of the bellhousing and the rear face of the pan you could develop a leak as was mentioned. GM has a detailed step-by-step procedure for installing the pan and front cover that you might want to read before you start turning wrenches. Lucky for you that you will have someone with experience to help out. I meant fortunate for you!

Just got back form running around...the tear down is just about to start! Nerves are setting in.
Quick question...how bad would it be if I did not change the timing cover gasket? and the crank seal???

I think the cam will be great at both ends of the spectrum. I like that cam, nice street manners and proven performer with solid support, indeed should be fun after if you can hold off the throttle during.

My two helpers.
All in all...not too bad so far. I am sure pulling the steering rack off, will be a major PITA.
More pics to follow.
