Default why do TR224 112 have more valvetrain noise than some bigger cams?

My TR224 is loud. It is loud with 7.400 or with 7.350 PRs. It is loud with harland sharp rocker arms. It is loud with Comp magnum adj rocker arms. Preload doesent seem to make a difference, neither did single or dual springs. I dont mind the noise I like the sound. I just want to know why this cam is so loud when bigger cams are not. I have all the bolt ons on a z06.

Fast ramp lobes open and shut the valves faster than OEM cams. Make more power, but also make more noise.

I have done over 30 cam installs with LSA's & lift's all over the spectrum and all I can say for sure is SOME motors are louder/noiser than others.... I know this is by no way scientific but none the less true....

Well I can tell you then I must be one of the luckier one's. I have a TR224/224 114 in a 90 miata that I just got running yesterday and its makes some noise, but nothing that everyone else has described. I am using stock ported heads with the Harland Sharp Rockers. They are not shaved either!!!

Here are some pics.

I'm running a TR230/224 111 with dual springs and YT rockers and it seems quiet to me. Maybe the mass of the YT's soak up some racket.

thanks for the reply all. I have already gone to the comp 850 lifters. Not the Rs. To try and help the noise issue. Didnt help either. Mine is loud. You can here the sewing machine noise bounce off a curbs and cars. Is this the normal amount of noise?

Are you sure the timing is not off and you're not getting piston to valve tapping? That could cause you to think it was a loud valvetrain.

With respect to the piston to valve tapping. If its tapping th evalve at idle then that SOB would self destruct as soon as you spun it up one good time.

Not true. I have seen valves hit the pistons lightly and spin 6000. Heads were aftermarket and so were pushrods. The pistons werent and they have valve reliefs now. No damage. No bent pushrods and no bent valves. It just cut its own valve reliefs. WEIRD!!!!! Only way we knew is it was throwing knock when there wasnt any. So shut off the knock sensors and made excellent power. I believe 400+whp. Not liking having the knock sensors disabled we pulled the heads and wamo valve reliefs!!!!!! Heads were checked by machine shop and pistons were checked for cracks and deburred. No damage!!!!
