I just got a 228/232 .571/.574 112 +4 pretty close to your specs.. from my research it will idle just fine with a tune.. there are pepole driving Trex, and G5X4's to work daily with a good tune..

I dunno how long you are gonna be able to drive it with the stock tune. My buddies 2002 z28 ran like absolute crap when we installed his 228/228 114 lsa cam in his car, once tuned though it idled like stock. If you can stand the surging and it isnt your daily driver I guess you could get away with it, but it wont be fun driving it without a tune.

yes by turning the idle screw it did idle on its own. I had to let the car sit for 30 seconds or so after startup so it could find the idle and then it was fine. I was constantly adjusting that screw though because the weather would make it change a little. I drove mine prolly a month or so before tuning. It ran very very rich though! Its best to get a tune as soon as you can though but a month or so isnt going to do any damage!

BTW, the car was my daily driver at the time!

Damn, that must not have been a real fun month lol. My buddies car was SUCH a pain to drive. Kept dying all the time and was having a bitch of a time finding idle. He didnt adjust the throttle body at all though. All i know is that we were driving to east side performance to get a tune done and 10 mins into the hour and a half drive he couldnt stand driving it and we just had it towed to the shop through AAA. Yea as Black8Banger said it shouldnt do damage, but get it tuned as soon as possible so you can get the full potential from your cam and start having fun right away!

I installed my 232/234 595/598 112+2 about 2 weeks ago and it definately is a bear to drive. It is horrible in town and stop and go traffic. On the highway or steady cruising it is pretty much like stock with the occassion surge. The idle was bad until I set the idle screw to get the IAC's down. It idles OK but leaves alot to be desired. I am hoping to get EFILive first of next week and start tuning asap. I want to see what this cam can do.

It is almost a waste to install a cam of this nature w/o a good tune.
The tune will add good power and driveability.

Also check out the 228/232 on XER lobes and a 114 LSA instead for better idle.

I drove my car for 3 months untuned becausecouldn't get a tune and it wasn't that bad. It didn't like AC much but all I had to do to find at startup was give it a little gas for about 20 seconds. I got used to it very quickly but its still much better once you get a tune.

Do you have any sound clips of this cam? I just ordered the same one, only difference is its on a 112 centerline. What do you think of it so far? You are running the 918 springs also? I'm supposed to have all of this on Friday, and my buddy is going to put it all in for me early next week. Look forward to your reply so I know what to expect.

Sorry I have no sound clips. I have true duals and I thought they were tolerable before, but now it is really loud. It has a nice deep pop to the exhaust under light to moderate loads. It sounds night and day different from before. The sound is much much better.

I am running the 918's. I used the Crane tool to install them. That is a great tool.

The car will be driveable if you adjust the throttle blade set screw to get the IAC's down. Mine at idle is running 18% to 25% lean at idle and 8% to 12% lean at cruise. I plan on getting EFILive next week and start the tuning portion.

Overall performance right now is awesome. It pulls alot easier and faster. I have not banged on it to much yet. I ran thru the gears once and it was putting a major hurting on my BFG DR's. A 9" is in my future for sure.

These specs are common among other vendors. I have not found or heard any feedback from the off the shelf Comp cam, but am thoroughly pleased. Good luck with the install and let me know how it runs. I would like to hear your feedback.

without a tune, it will totally suck to drive. It'll stall on you a lot. I know from experience.

Thanks DWill for the reply. I plan on having it tuned as soon as my friend finishes it, or that same week. I'm supposed to have everything in tomorrow or Monday, and my buddy said he can start on it on Sunday at the earliest.

I bet with true duals its loud as hell. Where will you be shifting it at once you tune it? I'm having mine dyno'd with the tune, I'll post the results on that.

Glad to hear you like it though. I'm sure I will like it a lot also.

Comp says the range is 2400 rpm to 7200 rpm. I still have stock rod bolts and after hearing the things that could happen I will be shifting at 6500 rpm, limiter set at 6700 rpm.

With the stock limiter it gets there in a hurry and with what seems like little effort. I can't wait to get it tuned. The closest shop with a dyno is in Washington, PA. That is about 1hr away. I plan on setting up an appointment and seeing what the car puts out. Good Luck.

Dave
