Default Vinci 062 cam

after burning up #2 exhaust valve, i went ahead and finally put the cam in. also cut .010 off the heads. chambers are now about 61.5cc. still used the same mr gasket (read victor reinz) head gaskets to keep that the same as well. trying to get on macedo motorsports dyno next week for some tuning. then to the track the week after. notice able lope to the cam. just enough to know it isn't stock. asked wife what she thought about it. she said, it takes off faster now .

track last night. new best on motor. slower on n2o. lost the pass front o2. have some dyno results. but, i think i have a bad injector to boot. best i could get was 14:1 AF. so, these are preliminary results until i can get all this situated.

seeing as it was cooler than sept 19th, i'll use the best run i had back in 27 jan 2005
there was some differences bolt on wise
borla 3" adjustable catback
no cats

12.822@108.59 1.930 60ft

this time around
bassani tru-duals
bassani metallicats
vinci 062 cam
.010 cut off heads
12.678 @ 110.36 1.995 60ft

so, .2 and 2 mph more so far. might get it back out next friday if i can get the tuning better.

Any reason you're running a stock torque converter? IDK how big of an effect the injector and O2 were having, but your trap speed is in the bolt ons range, along with the ET. I can see the ET being off b/c of the TC, but you should be trapping quite a bit higher. Hopefully your problem is with the injector/O2. Good luck.

testing only engine mods for vinci with this car at this point. keeping the stock converter takes out most of the torque multiplication that would throw off the dyno readings for torque numbers. i did do some dynoing before hitting the track. 21rwhp and 29 rwtq at peak. on the graph, i see about 40 rwtq at 4k rpms. that and wasn't ready to put a converter in the wife's car. i have a yank SS3200 sitting in the box. next to go in after i'm through dialing this in.

I would love to see your dyno curve once you get it straightened out, even the one you have right now.

How did the valve burn, nitrous?

What valve springs are you running, and at what installed height (shimmed?).

I am planning on taking mine apart again tomorrow to shim some valve springs.

i have the vinci/crane duals. had them since april of 2004 on the car. no shims. 1.775" installed height as set by vinci/crane.

yes, the valve got burned from a nitrous run. the main belt came off around the 60ft mark. so, no water pump spinning. also, maybe the #2 injector crapped out to boot. the header tube got so hot, it discolored the ceramic coating.

now, this is just preliminary. have to get the pass front o2 replaced, then see how it goes from there.

still though, not bad for an infant cam 210/218 (if a 220 is a baby cam). and don't worry about the numbers. macedo 224 dyno reads about 20 rwhp less than vinci's dyno does. i did a dyno compare. was an hour apart. i did 366 on vinci's dyno before the cam. numbers are subjective. i look for the differences.

this was 062 cam, .010 off heads, and tuning.

Interesting, because I don't see the thing we have spoke about at 5,800 on your setup vs. mine, and I wouldn't think my cam is "that" much more aggressive. I was just getting ready to go in and shim my valve springs, but now I am not sure as I don't want to boost my spring pressure for no reason either.

amazing. i must have tuned through it. there is a 'tiny' dip at 5600-5700 if someone really wanted to nitpick. and as you can see, i took it to at least 6700 rpms. really it was 7000 rpms i went to. and at least 10 runs that days as well. no valve float that i could hear/see. no knock retard at that rpm either. i didn't check the grams per cylinder. that would be an indicator of valve float.

Now wondering if I should bother shimming the springs. Do you know how much the ramp rates differ between our two cams?

not sure exactly how much. i don't have all the specs for every cam with me. the only difference between yours and mine is the duration. as we both have the same lift. so, your cam would open/close the valves a tiny bit quicker.

also, looking at the dyno graph for the AFR testcar, there is no dip at the 5800-6000 range using the 055 cam 216/224.

There is a dip on the next dyno down on their web site, with the converter locked, at aroun 6,200 RPM though. That I never understood. When you do a pull on an automatic, does the converter lock or stay unlocked? For instance, in your plot, does your converter lock-up during the dyno pull?

that wasn't converter locked. it was transmission locked in third gear via the yank tranny tricker. it keeps the trans from downshifting. that way they can get the lowest rpm reading possible. without it, about 3200 is where the trans won't downshift as seen in the graph i put up.

to answer your question, unless you command it to not unlock, it will run unlocked. you would have to go in with an editor, like LS1edit, HPTuners, etc., to accomplish that. i don't dyno with it locked. because i don't run it that way.

Hmmmmm, now I don't know if I should both going into the motor and shimming as I don't want to run the additional spring pressure on my lifters if it is not required. I measured the stock shim that the stock springs sit on, it is 0.035. The Crane seat is 0.050 so I am probably at the same installed valve spring height as you have. Just wondering if the Boss II cam lobe is much more aggressive than the Asp Kicker, that I am not sure of.

it won't be much. looking at the specs

062 210/218 mine with vinci/crane springs 1.8 rockers
055 216/224 AFR project car w/ AFR upgrade REV1116 1.8 rockers
056 216/224 yours with vinci/crane springs 1.8 rockers

i have 2* more exhaust duration than your intake. also, note the AFR project car has the exact same ramps yours does. just tighter LSA by 2*. and as you can see, it can be tuned out. the AFR car has different springs. so, it can't be the rockers.

Not familiar with those REV springs, do you know any of the information on them (load at 1.8, rate, etc.)?

no i sure don't. either way, it's not the springs either as i have the vinci/crane springs with no dip. unless you want to count the 5600 one.

Just re-checked Vinci's web site, test 5 states they installed the VHP (Crane) springs on the AFR heads. Not sure if they shimmed them, but I believe that AFR runs slightly larger (heavier) valves than the stock LS1 valves.
