Default Has anyone ever tried to weld..

Has anyone ever tried to weld the factory valve covers? Welding an A/n fitting or a spacer.

They are pretty thin so watch your heat. I have thought about the same thing, but almost want a backup in case it doesnt react the way that I planned.

I've welded thinner aluminum than whats on the valve covers, I am more worried about the grade of aluminum.

I am going to tig weld the spacer to the valve cover. Looks like I may need to mill off the ridge on the lower portion that holds the spacer in place. It makes the spacer sit too high.

Yeah I was wondering how tall it was going to be all said and done.
You take any measurements of it?

Good luck. The aluminum is cast and it is SHITTY.

I screwed up 2 AN nuts trying to weld them to the fricken cover and I am still looking for someone that can do it.

For the record I am VERY inexperienced with a TIG.

I have some decent MIG skills but I tried that and it just laughed at me.

I've welded AN fittings on them plenty. I always bead blast the covers first, to get rid of any trash or dirt. That makes a huge difference.
