Default ETP 225 Heads arrived.....OMG :)

Well, first off big thanks to Jeremy aka JZ's TA, and of course ETP. The heads just arrived about 11min ago, and the Mr Brown was feeling the love tonight, he knew I had been waiting for these bad. I am going to try and get these installed on my new forged 347ci LS6 tomorrow. I have been waiting for a long time to finally get it all together, unfortunately, I will have to run this new combo through the stock manifolds until I get the Kooks header and Y Pipe back, but will take it easier that way for "break-in"....easier to drive it like I stole it when its quieter

Nonsponsor rAPEd 347, 12.4:1, Compstar rods & ARP 2000 rod bolts, Diamond pistons, Billet main caps & ARP Studs, EDC 231/242 .637/.622 114* cam (ground for up mid sized, 300ish, nitrous shots), Morel lifters, all new GM gaskets with .040" Cometics, these sexy *** ETP 11* 225cc heads with ARP Studs, LS6 Intake (I know I need a 90/90, later ok)....eventually running through Kooks 1 7/8" SS headers, Y Pipe and Corsa catback. Hooked up to Rossler TH350, ATI 4000 stall RMVB Trans Brake lazyboy, connected to an aneimic factory 10bolt and 3.23's (cant wait to blow this **** up and get a 9" ).

Thanks for all the info, help and service Jeremy. I cant say enough about everything you helped me with, most ppl wouldnt even come close to the support, keep it up.

Charlie

Well, just talked to Drew778 he's down for engine swapping, and I know Lrry93 will be down. Now, to get a truck to pick this combo up from my house. Make the decision tonight to pull it out the top, or drop it out the bottom. I never dropped one, and the shop will only be open from 10am - 4pm Sat and Sun. No more working on it til Wed noon-8pm. I know we can pull it top side in the two days and drop it in. Not sure, since I never dropped one how long it will take and if there are any snags I could be screwed. However I do have a new tubular K member to install, also have the A arms, but not sure I'd want to do all of it at once, since the A Arms and **** will require extra time to disassemble and then when finished, align. Ugh...

Estimated time to drop engine, swap the blocks and install, for a newb to dropping the cradle?

240's....lovely. I am already thinking these heads will be sold about this time next year, if not sooner.....for some much larger ones. I know the cam will be able to utilize all the air these heads can pull, so thinking on the larger shots, the 250+ might be working better. For now, just want to hear this beast run.

A 408ci will be in my future if this shortblock doesnt work/last. After everything else with the rAPEd deal, a **** bottom end I dont need *crossing fingers* *knocking on wood* *saying my prayers for the last 8+ months*

Dropping it out the bottm is easy, that's if you have a way to lift the car up high enough. Then you have the K member on the ground and you can change everything. After putting a 4 wheel cart under the eng/trans, I then lifted up the body high enough and pulled the eng/trans ***. out with 1 hand.
I have a book at home, I forget the name but it has step by step instructions on pulling it out. This really helped. The biggest problem I had was bleeding the new clutch cylinder, everything else fit like a glove.

Good Luck,

VERY nice!! I wish those heads weren't so back ordered, etc, I would love to have a set for my 402, but I will have to settle for some Dart 225's instead. You're one lucky man, about time you got some good luck with that shitty Kooks ordeal!!

Steve, I will be running the stock rockers, at least for a lil while. I have been back n forth on the whole rocker issue, just no decision. I have ran stockers past 7000, on nitrous and all that with no issues, and I am sure the bearings spitting out are not someones paranoia. But, still not convinced that any other rocker will work that much better, or be that much more durable.

black_01WS6, I'll let you know.

david, yeah, looks like I am dropping the engine as well. Seen the write up, have examined the underside of my car everytime it was on the lift for either headers, TC or trans, so I think I will be able to get it done in time.

Thanks. I think I will end up with worked HS rockers. They did say they were going to try and ge an ET head to build stands. I have HS rockers now and it would be nice to use them again.

Sounds like we are on very similar paths. Just pulled the motor in my car in anticipation of the 13:1 forged 347.

Charlie on Larry's login:

Well, got the stock engine out, put the heads on (forgot one sides dowels), and most transfer parts are off. I ended up pulling the engine rather than dropping it. What a PITA day its been. Should have everything ready to fire up and drive home tomorrow.

Big Mahalos to Andrew and Larry again, excellent wrenching bro's.

Well, had a delay, but things are going good. We decided to pull rather than drop the engine, and that in itself has had some time. But, Wednesday the new TFS Pushrods should be here, and then I can fire in the hole Thursday. I still need to put the trans back in, exhaust, intake, and radiator etc. Fought with the damn oil pressure sending unit for about an hour, and to think I almost bought the damn special socket a few times *banging head* Wasted a little time putting the new poly mount on, ended up getting some grade 8 bolts to hold the clamshell together since the supplied zip ties let it sit crooked. And as luck would have it, I am now missing one, yes, just one damn AC compressor bolt...its like having that odd ball sock, you know its there, just where? I was hoping my headers and Y Pipe might make it back in time for this firing up, but thats not looking in the cards for me either. So, a few hours more on Wednesday installing all the other stuff, and hopefully, fingers crossed, it will fire up and be good to go Thursday. I cant wait to hear this fricken cam, and then of course, change the oil, and start breaking it in
Charlie
