Default Stripped rocker arm hole.

I found another foul up from the shop that I had work done at, I was reinstalling my rockers and one of the rocker arm bolts hole on the head was stripped w/ only 20lbs. How do rethread the hole? Do I Have to take the head off? Will I be able to use the same size bolt?

Its very very easy. Go to an auto parts store and get a package of 8mm helicoils. The package will come with a tap. Slowly drill the aluminum out to the correct size ~21/64ths and after the hole is drilled tap it with the included tap. Once the hole is tapped you can thread the insert into the hole and use a punch to set it in place and your done.

If they are ported heads, be careful because the rocker hole may not be blind. If it is a blind hole, then a helicoil will fix you right up. I had to do half the rocker holes on my old Nissan

I've tapped both rocker holes in ported and unported heads. If your doing the intake on a ported head just make sure you stuff the port with paper towels and vacuum the shavings out. Use a grease on the drill bit, go slow and it will catch 90% of the aluminum shavings.

Hahaha I am sooo sorry to hear this.

I had to retap the far back rocker thread on my new heads. It was not easy due to the tight space. But tapping it was no problem.

The size is 8 x 1.25 - I got mine from Kragen.

It will work out for you no problem, just a pain in the ***.

Far back or up close?

Leave the heads on. I was able to retap the very last rocker arm bolt the other day. I just had to work slow, but it is very possible.

isnt the intake(far back) an open hole, where if I drill fallings will get in the cylinders if the heads are on?

yeah some of it will drop. If your intake manifold is off, suck it out with a shop vac or vaccum. I also used a rag wrapped around a screwdriver to get it as clean as possible.

I am not sure weather or not its going to effect anything if some get in there...maybe someone else can chime in on this...
