gt2-3 cam lope
can a gt2-3 cam be made to have more lope at idle, i heard the idle sounds dead stock. can it have a retune and a 500 rpm idle and have a lope to it?
i am building a 5.3 for my street driven 3300# '50 chevy truck and i am trying to get the most streetable hp from this motor as possible for this truck to haul! i called lingenfelter performance and they told me the best cam for this motor is the gt2-3 so i bought the cam/spring combo that they had on sale.
here is my mods list so far:
2001 5.3 engine w/59k miles
ported throttle body
gt2-3 cam
descreened maf (z06 style)
headers
no emmissions
no engine driven fan (electric fan)
pcm retune
lower temp thermostat
what other power mods can ya'll suggest to get this engine to come alive?
what kind of hp can this setup make, the stock is 290hp/325tq at the engine is it possible to get this engine in the high 300's or 400 at the engine?
just curious, what kind of track times could this setup get me in this small truck with a th350 (shift kit)?

yeah that will work, but it will probably change the way the cam was designed to run,and thats with a nice flat torque curve and good top end, with a 112 it will lose that nice feature.

You might get what you want by reducing the spark advance at idle.
The more open your exhaust system is the more lope effect you will get.
Running a large diameter and short pipe will do it. It's not so practical but you get the idea which direction to go in for the sound.
Keep in mind this isn't neccessarily going to help performance at all, just change the sound at idle.

Trust me I had that cam and I got to say I loved it only because I didnt want anyone to know I had a cam. Get a hotcam or a tr224 if you want some good street power with a nice lope. Or even check into the FMS cams, you cant go wrong with those
