Default Valve spring life..

Was wondering what the valve spring life is of Comp 918 single springs. I have about 5,000 miles on them and they have been in the car for about 1.5 years. I run a 224/224 112 cam and spray.

You know I have never found a definitive answer, but I would like to read what others have experienced... Looking to do a set soon myself.

Never really pinpointed the reason spring pressure was down. Could it be the heavy Yella Terra rockers adding more pressure and weight over the valve compared to the stockers? Maybe? I'm closing in on 15K on my PP Gold and will be testing them here before next spring's racing season.

Only way to tell is to measure them. Don't be surprised if they are down some, it is just a question of whether they are still controlling your valve train correctly. You would need to put the car on a dyno and see if you have any power losses indicative of a valve train problem.

I've heard about 25K miles expected life but I'll be checking them at least twice a year.

yeah 20,000-25,000 is pretty decent life for a cammed set of springs. Most of the ones that last near that mileage is a DD and rarely sees the strip anyway. But I am sure that there are some freaks out there that are running the 918's at the strip on a weekly basis and still have yet to break one with 15,000+ mileage.

just lost a dual crane valve spring on a 224/224 .562 114lsa cam at 23K miles..

Its been recommended to throw in a comp 921 dual spring kit and thats whats happening.

I'll update what ever else is found out as it comes together.

Just a slight miss at 5500 and above on the dyno...power was off quite a bit up in the rev band...

Not doing the crane again because of tuners preference.

Of course it can be done much less expensive with the crane springs but tuner prefers comp921's and I'm following their preference.

Broke up at the top of the spring on cylinder4?

Dual cranes took a crap at about 22K miles. Car fell on its face dynoing at 5500 rpms...

Opened up the valve covers and number four valve spring was broken.

Replaced it with comp 921's, tuned it and the car dyno'd at 415rwhp..

Don't mess around with not changing out the valve springs at recommended intervals.

I'm not too happy about the valve spring breakage...

I hope my story here gives you guys insight to move on changing the valve springs before recommended intervals...

Hindsights 20/20 so learn from my experience..

Good luck
