Default What makes the LS1 more powerful then the LT1?

I know that the Lt1's used reverse flow cooling and the ls1's used a modified form of that (or so I think), and the ls1's have 6 bolt mains. But in all actuallity what accounts for the big hp increase at the rear wheels? They have the same pistons/engine sizes(w/ the lt1 being an actualy 350). Is it because the ls1 intakes/heads are just that much better?

What are the main differences. I am curious about the piston rings, do the ls1's use something different?

intake and heads on the LS1 are far superior to the LT1, the LS1 cars come from the factory with better intake/heads and a larger stock cam also (if memory serves on the cam)

The LT1 is a 350 and the LS1 is a 346. The LS1 is aluminum and quite a bit lighter. The block isn't where the power is at. The LS1 has a bigger cam and MUCH better heads and intake. The PCM and coil on plug ignition system is also WAY better. I could go on and on abouit the differences, because they are NOTHING alike. About the only thing they have in common is the fact that they are both V8's and made by GM.

The question was why does it make more power. He said it's cause it's aluminum. That's not why it makes more power.

sure it is. the aluminum gets rid of heat quicker than iron thus keeping it cooler which gives u more power.

the aluminum block really wont give you more power, but it will make you faster because its a lot lighter.

It's all in the intake runner flow, combustion chamber design, and intake manifold. It's all about airflow. The bottom end (design) is similar to LT1 or small blocks. The heads are the main difference. Lightweight valves and EFI injection help.

its the 200cc heads with lightweight valves, .500 lift cam, better flowing intake and TB, negative deck height, basicly GM pulled out all the stops with the LS engine

The roller lifters & valve springs are interchangable. The LS series is a "clean sheet of paper design". And the Blue oval guys are dying ........... over it.

I would have to say the biggest reason is this..

The LS1 has 15* heads compared to 23* LT1 heads...

When the LS1 was being designed, the engineers looked at how race engines made power.
#1 All ports are the same, (equal).

That is the main reason.
More flow capabilities=more power

You can build LT1s to make more power, but let us just say that LT1 limits are way below what a max effort LS1/LS6 can make.
