Default TSP magic stick VS. T-Rex

ok heres the Deal...im gonna cam my LS1 befor racing season rolls around and im stuck between these two cams. so i need your guys help...

my goal is low 6's in the 1/8th mile N/A...my mods as of now include:SLP lid, Loudmouth, 3.73 gears, pacesetter Longtubes, SLP 85 MM MAF (LS6 intake shorty after cam install) and i know ill need a big stall for both cams but im wating till i decide which cam befor i decide the stall size...

i put 200 miles on my car at the most a week so its not a daily driven car by any means so i can handle sucky *** drivabilty. Also the guy that tunes for my performance guy is really hard to get into touch with but he is a master at the craft of tuning LS1's, so ill be driving on a tune from a Vinci/crane power tuner(that can tune bigger cams)...

which way would u guys go?

ms3 is a little smaller than t-rex. also trex will probably make a little more power so it all depends on what you want I would go with th e trex if I were you

I have a MS3 in my car, and it drives fine on a SD tune. My mods are listed on my homepage. I have a 3800 stall and 3.42 gears and I have no issues with driveability.

Low 6's in the 1/8th...? that's like mid 9's. If you want to do that you need a purpose built car with a lot of weight reduction. Judging by your lack of listed mods I'm going to say with either setup you'd do well to run a 7 flat. T-rex and a 4400 stall would be a solid start. Not trying to be a dick - but you have to crawl before you....

can run 9's

A T-Rex auto would be sweet for NA drag racing. If you dont daily drive the car I say DO IT!

t-rex with 4400 stall and supporting bolt-ons should get you near/under 7.5

weight reduction might be needed to achieve "low" 7s 1/8 mile...

magic stick is a good street cam and is nothing like the t-rex. the t-rex is much larger than the ms3 and will net better ETs....not because it has A LOT more power, as the peak numbers aren't far from each other, but rather HOW it makes the power and HOW LONG it makes power. a properly tuned t-rex car should peak about 6,400 and pull to ~7k, if not a little bit more. seems the ms3 cars peak ~6,700 and fall off hard at 6,800.

i, too, had this decision...and said f yall i'm doin a custom grind

lg motorsports makes any of the g5x cams. opt for a g5x4 if you want that much power. it falls in between the ms3 and t-rex, on the conservative side.

I'm running low 7's, but I have some older AS S2 heads. I was running an SS4000 stall and 3.23 gears, full weight car and almost 120 MPH in the 1/4. So yeah, with a big stall and I would look at 4.56 gears, low 7's is very possible. My trex peaked at 6800 and pulls hard to 7200 RPM, but I have a forged bottem end to handle the high RPM.

I ran 7.136@95.77 in the 8th with a TSP 231/237 cam, trapping at only 6200 in the 1/4. I had a 28" stiff sidewall tire that was way too much for my setup. If you go with the MS3 you should easily see low 7's, high 6's.

I vote for the MS3. Its a great cam and I ran some 7.4s on motor and 6.6 on gas with it and a tight 3500 converter. I have recently installed a 4400 but no times yet.

don't forget to mention DA when you're talking about 1/4 ETs and trap speeds...

i see you ran 11.xx before the cam, which tells me you have a very light car or you live somewhere that is close to sealevel.

also that th350 will free up some hp over a 4l60e..

ok what about the crane cam
228° 232° .600" .600" 112°

its got a big lift but not a huge duration but still looks like it'd make some big power and its for sure tunable with my crane cam tuner

dear s 346k. I dont know what you are failing to notice, but my cars weight with me out of it is in sig. I am not driving a gutted out shoebox and the only thing that my car is missing is a rear seat and bumpers. And if you think that a built 35o turbo is better than a built 4L60, then you need to check into the gearings of those trannys. A 4L60 has a lot lower first gear than a 350 and that my friend equals a better 60 foot which equals beter et . Except in your case where a 1.70 60 produces 8.18. My friend has a car that puls 1.90 60s and has ran 8.19. And you can take sea level and stick it up your jealous ***. If you think thats why you arent going as fast as you should then my sugestion would be move. Come to where I am from and you can experience my, as you put it guted out, sealevel shoebox. FIRST HAND And yes the converted made it feel stronger out of the hole.
