Question Difference with ls6 cam, stock heads, 7.4 pr

I know that 7.4 pr is not the correct length with stock ls1 heads, but what is actually happening? Are the valves not opening all the way? Would there be a horsepower gain from going with different pr's?

anyone? I believe the correct height on stock ls1 heads is either a little longer or shorter I can't remember?

Smaller base circle so the pushrods should be a little longer than stock.

Just measure the base circle of the LS6 cam. (X.XX)
1.55-(X.XX)= (0.YY)

(0.YY) / 2 = the amount of longer p-rod needed.

Don't you love math

7.425 is the rod length you need. As for the other question I am not quite sure, I would imagine its causing the valves to not open up as far as they could?

There is enough adjustment in the lifters to cover the the smaller base circle of the ls6 cam, dozens of them on this board with ZO6 cam and stock pushrods, or you can replace with ZO6 valves which are a bit longer.

I've used stock pr's with the LS6 cam with no issues.

Nope. once the lifter preload is set , the cam lift will be the same.

There is no adjustment in the lifter.
The diference in base circle is ABSORBED by the lifter, but that results in less preload and can induce valve float at high rpm and a noisier valvetrain.
