Default Lock washers OK on cam bolts?

My cam bolts loosened on my old setup and now that I have spent a lot of money on a 408, I want to make sure that the cam bolts stay put this time!

I purchased the ARP cam bolt kit which only consists of three bolts . Anything I can do in addition to using ARP bolts to make sure they dont come loose? lock-washers? Loc-tite on ARP bolts?

Also, what torque should be used on ARP cam bolts?

THanks ALL

some lock-tite, i wouldn't put washers on anything that didn't have one on it beforehand.

What type of loc-tite? I used the permaxxx (something) red loc-tite on my old 346 and the bolts came loose . I just dont want to have it happen again.

Lock washers are not needed.

I used the permatex thread locker and my bolts came loose on me as well. I patched her up with the red loctite stick (looks like a gluestick or big chapstick). The thread locker that failed was leaking, so i feel it may have catalized in the bottle, but stayed a liquid. Try a fresh package of loctite applied to clean threads when you install and torque to spec. You should have no problems. I wouldnt suggest lock washers either.

that's weird that you guys have had bolts back out like that, i've done probably 20 cam swaps and never had any issue like that. how did you find out they had backed out?

Cam sensor through a code which told me that something moved in there. Pulled it apart and all three bolts backed off about 1/2" .

I threw the cam position sensor "high signal" error and my tach stopped working. That was because the cam walked backwards in the block and the cam sensor was now above the solid cam journal instead of being located above the reluctor channel carved into the cam. My cam had walked about 1/4 inch back... Im lucky the lifters didnt fall off the cam, but I wonder if it weakened the rollers since they came apart 12K miles later. FWIW.

You wouldnt happen to have a part number or LINK to this would you?

I have access to some military grade loc-tite at work. I might try some of that if I can not find anything else.

Locktite doesnt work at all if there is oil on the threads. Locktite also is no replacement for a good torque wrench.

I don't know if there's a specified shelf life on thread lockers but when I start a new project and my thread locker or silicone sealer etc. is more than a year old I buy new just to be safe (and properly dispose of the old).

Also if I'm not mistaken there is a product referred to as a "primer" for thread lockers, this may be were that should be used.

Could be wrong here but I don't think you use lockwashers on torqued bolts.
