so i go to buy a $1500 motor to replace my blown 1...short story
it was a crate motor taken out of a 98ss I didnt even see it when it was being purchased. right just before my bro graduated from wyotech one of his classmates had wrecked his camaro and was selling the "stock motor". so i gave my brother the money and he comes back to the house and puts it in the garage. being it was close to tax time I was gonna wait minute to maybe buy a forged motor instead of a stock one.
anyway so the motor sits for around 2 months with the oil still in it then the time comes to for taxes and I owe my mom money so there goes 2k right from my taxes......no new forged shortblock.
so I start taking my "stock motor" apart down to the bare shortblock cause i'm gonna be doing a not so stock h/c, and as soon as the first head comes off I noticed the pistons look like they had been flycut, I was kinda excited cause this gives me a little peice of mind knowing I'll be using the t-rex.
I take it to the ls1 performance shop to do a leakdown and compression test and as soon as the guy looks at the pistons he told me they were forged pistons with -2cc valve reliefs....what kind of stock *** motor gets sold for$1500 that has forged pistons . so immidiatelyI stat to think, oh this motor probably wont even work.
the tuner called me yesterday that the leak down went great and so did the compression test........halle mothafuckin luyahhhh!!
crazy huh
I told people at work that I'm swapping out my blown motor for a camaro shortblock and their immidiate response is"why you gonna do that"..... "your car is gonna be slower now".
some people make me laugh.

cool...the only thing to ask now is who built it ? how good of a job did they do ? will it hold up ? are the new parts limited to pistons ? what kind of pistons ? ring pack ?.........just becasue you have forged pistons doesnt mean you can throw whatever you want to at it......just a little advice before you get ahead of yourself.....good luck

good point... I would assume if they did forged pistons, and he was going to school at WYOTECH, that they would have done everything right, but if it was me I would def. get it all looked at before I spray a 250 shot LOL

they didnt rebuild the motor at wyotech, my bro picked it up from a friend who went there. I'm having the guy make sure everything is ok with the motor before i even have it installed. most likely I wont even spray cause around where I live there doesnt seem to be much more than **** talking rice.

Have the cam doctored and see. You might be surprised in what you find. Might be a bigger cam than what you are putting back in it. Maybe the motor was sprayed before and that is the reason for the forged slugs. Are the heads stock? Just curious. Heck, if it's in good shape that's a hella good find.
