Default Oil pressure.. Am i S-O-L???

alright.. we got my 408 back together and ever since it has been back together i noticed my oil pressure is always pegged.... its 130 (maxed) in my DIC gauges and its pegged on the needle....

when i put the key in the car it jumps up to about 75.. and then climbs up to 130 almost instantly.. this is BEFORE i even start the car....

faulty sensor???

the engine is a HPE 408, stage 3 heads, big cam..

we DID put in a ported LS6 high flow oil pump in it... but the oil pressure jumped up to 130 even before we started the engine for the first time.. its just like its pegged all the time so im thinking it has got to be a sensor????

So you are saying that oil pressure is at 130 before you start the car? Unless you have an electric oil pump you shouldn't have much if any pressure before you start it. I'd say faulty sensor or wiring.

thats exactly what i was thinking.. gotta be a bad sending unit... will the oil pressure stay in the car 24/7???

after i shut off the car and let it sit overnight when i put the key in the next morning the oil pressure does my full sweep (z06 full gauge sweep) then it settles at 60 PSI for a sec.. then climbs rapidly till its pegged.... this is BEFORE i start the car... i thought that the oil pressure went away after you shut it off???

Not sure on the vettes, but on the F-body, if the sensor is cracked or broken, it will read 0. If the sensor is left unplugged, it will peg out to the max.

Replace the oil pressure sensor behind your intake manifold...very common problem on 'Vettes.
