Default Which cam for an a4?

What spec sizes would you all recommend for a 2001 ws6 a4 with lt's, y pipe, lid, and cat back? i dont want anything too big, but at the same time i dont want to waste my money on a small cam and not see a real big difference. thanks in advance

You really need a stall before a cam or atleast that is what they tell me.

Lots of answers in the Internal section. Make sure to match the cam to the convertor.

The HOT cam would work with what you have. You don't have to change the TC if you don't want to. Just be realistic about your plans, so you don't have to re-do things and sell parts (at 20 cents on the dollar).

Better to define where you plan to be and work it in stages with parts that complement each other.

a 228/228 cam with a 3500 rpm converter will be a real nice combo

When we had our first tune on the rollers with Cam/Bolt-ons only, we put down 385.3 rwhp 386.1 rwtq on a DynaPak, with a MTI X1 (230/227 .591/.571 112 LSA) and a 3400 stall 2.2 STR TC.

Definately get the Torque Converter first.

It's all in what you want. A bigger stall is a must, most would recommend a 3400-3500 stall, I'd recommend going with something like a 3800 stall, but then again, I'm biased. Cam wise, I don't blame you for not wanting to go small. If you want something with good power, a broad powerband, and good driveability (with the right tune), I would have to recommend something like the F14 (232/234) from FMS, or a 233/239 from TSP. I decided to do something different with my car, something that I haven't seen done yet. I picked up the TRak cam from Thunder Racing, which, duration-wise isn't a terribly large cam, but as far as lift, it is a monster: 233/235, .648"/.598", 112. I'm running it with stock heads for now, a 3800 stall, and 3.73's. I should be taking out some G5X2/G5X3 cammed cars if all goes well. Cheers. Any other questions, let me know.

when i had the hotcam, you could feel it, and see that i needed a converter. with a 3.23 gear the car was a turd off the line, then when it hit second it was like a raped ape! it would sidestep then go. even on video tape, you see and hear my car come on. but out of the hole, it was a dog.
