Default High oil pressure???

I have about 60 psi at idle and 75-80 at WOT. Im stumped and dont know why I have oil pressure. What are some of the causes. I am running a factory ls6 pump.

I forgot to put the high in oil pressure. At idle I have about 60-65 PSI of pressure and 2000rpm up, I have about 75+.

I know prior to the new oil pump, timing chain, cam and springs, I had about 40 at idle at 75-80 at WOT. It looks like my readings on the gauge are up about 20psi than what they should be and I didnt know what the causes of it would be.

Suggestions?

Yeah really...when I had my car at Speed Inc they sounded like they were impressed and I should be glad that it had high oil psi stock.

Mine isnt as high as yours though, mine stays at 50 at idle...w/90k miles now.

Of course I would rather have high oil pressure. I just dont know why I have it. It is a factory ls6 pump that is not ported or shimmed, seems odd to me, thats all.

I dont want to blow out seals due to high oil pressure or heat the oil up really hot. I guess it is not a spun bearing or something along those lines blocking an oil passage and creating a restriction.

I always think the worst. I guess its not that bad...

You don't know for sure until you hook up a mechanical guage to see what your truck is really doing. If it reads differently then your factory guage, you need to change the sending unit. Chances are it got damaged during the cam swap. At 95k my car runs about 45 hot idle and ~70psi at WOT on German Syntec 0W30.

Yeah when cold and at anything over 2000 rpm's my car's oil pressure is damn near pegged. after it warms up it drops to about 65-70 at anything over 2000 rpm's.

Mine sometimes fluctuates when I accerate and matches the tach like when the tach goes up oil pressure goes up, but when i shift it goes back down. This doesnt always happen however. Its still right around 40 though, so its just a little wierd or maybe it isnt tell me.

Do you know where it is located and how it could have gotten damaged?

Im going to try and get a mechanical gauge on it today. I will report back my findings. Hopefully its a bad sending unit. (crosses fingers)

The sending unit is on the back of the block, right behind the intake manifold.
I am almost positive that there is a place to connect a mechanical gauge right above the oil filter. If you have an oil cooler, the hole will be already tapped. If you do not have an oil cooler, the hole above the oil filter will have to be drilled and tapped.

Ya see that black thing in the back with a green top. That's the oil pressure sending unit.
