Default Under $1000 budget heads for 224 cam thru manifolds

I've already made 382rwhp with just the TR224 cam and tune through manifolds and no cats/high flow exhaust. I'm thinking about either ls6 heads or a set of ported ls6 heads bare for $600-700. I see the Dart Stage 1's bare are also around $700. I already have springs/retainers/etc so I just need a bare head that would be worth 25hp to justify spending the money on heads.

I know I should get headers, but for now it's manifolds. Any advice on which budget head would be best? I've searched but it's mostly for headers etc.

any particular reason you don't want headers.

There is no one way to mod a car... but he does have a point, i'd go and buy a decent set of headers before you buy a set of heads... it seems there is a lot of poeple on this board that complain that there cardont make the power they want with a certin cam or H/C or it doesnt run a certin time.... well a lot of it comes with you set up. Most people dont do enough research before they mod their car... just my .02

The reason is, this is on my rx7, so for the long tube headers it's $750, plus rewelding and doing another dual exhaust with X-pipe, etc, basically $1200.00 for exhaust that will gain me maybe 15wrhp, since I'm stock ls1 with just a TR224/224 cam.

Right now I would rather get a set of heads to freshen the engine, and provide a little more bang for the buck.

Back on topic...which Patriots?

his results look great for a 224 cam through manifolds. makes me think the manifolds arent the restriction but moreso the cats...

anyway, a set of take off LS6 heads will give you about 20hp to the wheels...and they should only be about $650. a friend of mine is making 414 on his z06 with a 226 cam and headers.

right...i was just pointing out that everyone doesnt necessarilty have to swap out the manifolds to make decent power. looks like the cats were more of a restriction.

No offense, but I question the dyno #'s. I've never seen that cam work well with stock manifolds. My friend with the TR224, stage II 5.3l heads(11:1), shorties and no cats dyno'd 350 rwhp. That cam was designed for longtubes and isn't a good cam for shorty headers. He's over 50 rwhp shy of what he should be with longtubes. If he gains 50+ rwhp when he puts longtubes on, then I guess we'll know that they are a restriction for sure. BTW, his car runs good and any issues that could be holding him back have been ruled out.
