Default Aftermarket heads WITH the TREX

What would be the best set of aftermarket heads to run with the TRex cam? What all will have to be done to the heads to make sure the PV clearance issues and all other issues are resolved before installing them. I'm not looking to spend 2k on a set of AFR heads either. Lets have the price range be 800-1500.
Also, would it be worth it to get a set of cheap stock heads and port them myself and then have the modified to work with the TREx and install them together? Thanks for the replies.

Best heads and $800-1500 don't belong in the same sentence. Maybe if you asked what would be the best heads for a 346 running a T-Rex under $1500? That would be better. The as-cast Dart 225s would be the first choice followed by the ported 243 heads by PRC and Livernois.

If you wanted the best (period), then it would be AFR small bore 225s or ETP 225 for your *****-out motor.

Well I only hope to see high 10s on my motor. Mods will be LS6 intake, lid, UD pulley, SLP headers, ORY, Trex cam, 4000 stall, and some sticky rubber most likely. Would the PRC LS6 CNC ported heads offered by TSP for 899 be good enough for that? That seems like a steal for brand new heads. What is the power difference seen between the AFR 225s and the heads I mentioned from TSP?

The bigger question is will that cam fit with any of those heads and stock pistons. Start there.

Getting high 10's is more than just making power, your gonna need some suspension, prolly a built tranny and maybe a rear ! I would go with some ported stock heads, and you will need flycutting Im sure with that monster cam !

When flycutting the pistons do I reuse the stockers or do I get new ones? I assume flycutting is not something I can do myself, so how much would a machine shop usually charge to flycut the pistons and mill the heads?

I've been looking into flycutting, and you can do it yourself with the motor in the car.

Here are some directions, http://www.ffhp.net/tech_Isky.htm and search around the forum for "flycutting pistons" or "piston notching"

If you dont want to flycut, youre pretty much limited to stock valve heads. Patriot and PRC both have 243 casting CNC heads for under a grand.

Yeah...

If I wasn't dead set on running an MTI setup I would be running PRC heads, here are some results
