Default hot cam help

I have been looking to put a cam in my 01 ws6, cam 1 crane cam 216 224 duration 551 lift cost 410 plus springs, cam 2 gm hot cam 219 228 duration 525 lift cost 428.95 with springs, whitch cam should I get, by the way I going to 3.42 instead of the 4.10 and it's a A4 car that will get a 2800 or 3000 TC with the cam?

I have the crane with LS6 intake ported heads. Its a great combo for dailey driver and it doesnt really advertise unless you get on it, Im really suprised how it works with the rhoads lifters. If i had to do it again I would try the cheater cam you have to do springs anyways. Oh and I bought my cam for 125 used with 5k miles on it. Check out used cams could find a deal out there.

If you aren't worried about smog or drawing attention to yourself with a bigger cam (damn visalia PD) I would go with something like the TR224, personally speaking.

Between the two, I'd say the Hotcam. Then again, I have the Hotcam, I'd say don't get it. There are better cams that aren't much more expensive and will perform better all around. Not to say that it is a bad choice, but if it was me I'd get a 224 from TSP or Thunder.

I think you guys are right the tr224 112 for me would be the best, but i do live in CA and I think I would have to find a good friend at a smog station.

I too have the same Crane cam (VHP 056). It will idle much better than the Hot Cam. I also don't think the Hot Cam will pass CA emissions, better check on that as it is pretty lumpy. The Comp 918's will work nicely with the Crane cam as well. Heck, even the Z06 springs will likely work. I made over 370 HP with the Crane and headers, decent idle and stealthy and it made more power than stock everywhere, there was no sacrifice down low. Good cam for an automatic as well.

dude that cam is weak. Its better than stock but if you are going to open the engine to swap cams do it right. Look man I know you think you found the right cam but go with something like this 224/224 at least .550 lift and 114LSA. This will idle good and give you very strong gains without sacrafice

I still say go larger, like the 224/227 that Thunder offers. Anything from them, Texas Speed, or Futral will make good power. Don't get me wrong, I can't say too much bad about the Hotcam being bad, it's just a challenge to get the idle right and eliminate surging. Also, look at getting a kit with 918's so you will easily be able to go bigger later on without buying an all new spring kit. May cost more now, but it'll save you in the long run.

Just my $.02, but I'll be having the Hotcam kit for sale before too long myself, and I'm making 400/405 on it right now, so I guess I can't say too much.

I think you better find out if the Hot Cam will pass emissions in CA, I don't believe it will. Its a lot of work to put in and then find out the hard way.
