Default crack lines in valley cover - would you guys use this?

I bought this off of a board member and was a little surprised when I opened it up. I don't think valley covers "wear" so I didn't really push the condition of the part... however now I am wishing I would have asked more questions. It looks like there are little crack lines over parts of the surface. Would you guys use this LS6 valley cover? Is this normal?

Thanks, -Dave

Normal casting cracks. When I cleaned up alot of my parts with the bead blaster they looked the same.

Looks like casting marks. I wouldn't be worried.

So if they were casting marks... I could probably polish them out, right? Not saying I want a polished valley cover, but just to make sure they're casting marks.

why bother? It's a cover, it doesn't really seal anything.

I am doing a turbo setup and am wondering if presurizing the engine block (from blow-by) will cause an issue. I don't want any crap falling down off of the valley cover into the oil pan if it does to start to come apart.

I think the valley cover does seal the top of the block, helping to maintain vacuum, doesn't it?

Thanks for the input though... I am going to take another good look at the valley cover tonight to see if those lines are casting marks.

Yeah that is normal, but if in doubt, take it to a machine shop and magnaflux them. That will tell you if they are indeed cracks.

if you have that much blowby you might want to consider a rebuild

yes it does, to seal the engine for the PVC system

I have a forged HPE shortblock and I'm not up and running yet... I'm going to be PISSED if I need a rebuild on a brand new engine!

Those are completely normal...I used to work for the die-casting company that made those covers.

Magnaflux doesent work on non-ferrous metals. Those arent cracks just part of the casting.

Isn't there another method using UV reflective die? maybe magnaflux is not the right term.
