Budget H/C swap.

Budget H/C swap.
I would like to have a new H/C setup, but don't want to spend more than $2k and make 450rwhp. I have a built tranny and the t.c. to get a bigger cam. I think i'm getting close to maxing out my current setup and I my goal is to run 10s N/A.Is this possible with a budget h/c swap.

I think U will it will all come down to tuning. There have been guys with the t-rex and autos with stock heads and bolt ons pushing 430+. The thing is you will have to go big on the cam and think about piston to valve clearence. There is a poll on here about the texas speed ms3, ms4 ,t rex and t rax cams. Depending on the heads u get the ms4 will require noching the pistons. I belive anything milled past 5 ccs. But from what I understand the rex and rak and ms3 do not. Since your going n/a you have to think about compression and dynamic compresion. All the stated cams need about 8.5 dynimc compression to get the full benafit from them. Dont ask me how to figure dynamic compression i dont fully understand it, But it helps from what Ive read on this sight. 2k to spend is really do able its just the options. But I know for a fact that if you get the texas speed ms3 with their prc stage 2 heads and ls6 if you dont have one you will get close or exceed your goal. Its just a matter of tuning and so on.

My car made 403hp with the TRak cam and stg1 prc's, and one of the guys at TSP made 430 with a bigger converter (4400) TorquerV3 (same cam). There you have it two of the same combo's with 30 hp difference.

I think you should be thrilled with 420-430 in an A4 high stall car. Especially if you're keeping your stock LS1 Intake. But with slicks you may be able to tap into your 10 sec number.. assuming your rear holds up for more than a few passes.

I think you would be able to do it with PRC's and an MS4. But, for that combo you'll probably spend more than 2K for everything needed to run that radical of a cam such as the bigger PRC springs and some good lifters. Running that big a cam you really can't afford to skimp out on anything. Then you gotta figure in gaskets and other odds and ends that might come about through the process. 2K is kinda a tight budget unless you can find a good deal on used stuff.

I am sure a tuner will be able to make your car put down 450HP. Its simply a matter of tuning the car to show HP and that's it! Sure they can lean it out and it will show AWESOME numbers on the dyno, then on a hot summer day, going up hill in OD.... BOOM!
Yes tuning is part of it. But with a cheap set of heads, the only way the car will show power on the dyno is by leaning the **** out of it and bumping out the timing. A tune should be done not to show power, but to go down the track well.
With a track-able tune your car will not make 450RWHP with a cheap set of heads, and Auto and a big converter. Not with a safe raceable tune...
My advice, is save up some more money so that you can afford a good set of LS6 or maybe even 5.3 leater heads, a good intake and so on. Have it tuned well and you will make your 450RW safely and efficiently.

The MS4 with stage 1s would get you closest to your goal. The PRC Stg 1s with a Dual Spring kit is $1,249, the cam is $389.99, pushrods are $106.99 and bolts and gaskets for the swap is $149.99. That should get you under $2000 even with shipping.
