POLL: Which short block for ETP 215 Heads & N20?
Trying to decide which short block would best compliment my ETP 215 heads. Cam will be custom built after the fact so I only need to match this up to the heads and 150 NX wet kit. I was looking for something that can support 550-600 rwhp on the spray.
I was thinking about the Speed Inc 348 with diamond pistons and rods for $2,800. I know TSP has a forged 347 for the same price but Texas is a little farther away then northern IL so I might get a little cheaper freight from Speed inc.
I was also thinking about doing a aluminum 383 but who builds a decent forged one for a reasonable price?

215 heads probably arnt enough to support a 408 and may be even on the small size for a 383 and as for your goals of 550-600 hp that should be no problem with a 347 and those heads with a nicely matched cam along with that 150 shot

1). Get a forged 347 from one of our sponsors and stay with stock cubes. This is appealing since these short blocks are as little as $2,700.
2). Step up to a 382/383 short block and have the warm fuzzy feeling of knowing I at least increased my cubes a little since I was going through the expense of a new motor any way. From what I see this will run me $4,500 (still trying to find a better price).
3). Sell my ETP 215 heads (probably for a slight loss) and then buy different ETP heads to better match a 402 or 408 short block. I'm guessing $5,000 at least but I have not priced these out yet.
I am kind of leaning towards number two as it seems a nice "compromise" of performance and value. I think I'll call LME later this morning and get thier advice. Me =

I talked to Bryan @ LME this morning and gave him the 411 on my situation. He told me that even with the 215 heads I would be leaving 20-30 rwhp on the table by doing a 383 vs a 402 or 408. After a good 15 minute conversation I think he has talked me into a LS1 402 Iron short block for my car.
I really didn't want the extra weight in there but an extra 25 rwhp more then compensates for 100 extra pounds. Plus it's the same price as thier 383 aluminum short blocks. This is going to be one fast car when I'm done

I'd go with the 347 if it was up to me.

1). The ETP 215 heads were sold for a $300 loss

3). LS7 intake and 90mm TB is incoming which flows better and is cheaper then a fast 90 setup
4). LME 408 iron block is replacing my stock bottom end.
5). Original cam was sold and new cam will be ordered shortly. Probably a more suitable 408 size cam like 240/244 110 but that is TBD.
6). 100-200 shot of N20 will be on top of this allready sick *** motor.
7). I'll probably be divorced by the end of the year if my wife ever finds out how much I spent on this car
Thanks for all the help guys. This is why LS1tech is THE BEST f-body site on the internet

Send your heads back to ETP or TEA and have them open up the intake to 228-230, then you don't have to worry about getting new heads and you now have a real torque monster. They do this all the time.
