6spds, Cams, Bucking---What's the real deal
Had a cam installed a few months ago and drives great except when I get below 1500 rpm's or so. This generally isn't a problem unless I'm in first gear. You always hear the phrase, "It's all in the tune". Just how much can a tune do??? Is it possible to get them tuned where there is no bucking at all??? I'm not talking about a SD tune either. I've just got a middle of the road cam but wondering if it and bigger cams the tuning can completely eliminate the bucking. What's been your experience? I did try to do a search on this subject but had little luck. Thanks

The 110 LSA isn't helping anything, however I am surprised when you say you are having problems in first, particularly with 4.10's. I'm assuming your cam is a Comp XER.Surely you knew this cam was going to have a nasty idle compared to a 114 LSA. Maybe the tuner can give you a little insight.

Alot of bigger cams are going to give you that bucking at lower RPMs. Mine does it in 6th gear at 60-65 when I let off the gas. I also have 4.10s. It does that b/c of the lope, the cam wants to make power and you're just not in the sweet spot.

What the 110 LSA is helping is to give me ideal valve events which give me good power under the curve. I also did want a little bit of a nasty idle. The tuner did say this was part of having a little more aggressive cam, but just looking for more opinions.

Why not a speed demsity tune? The tuner can put your MAF back on after the tune and you will still have the drivabilty benefits from the tune. This is what I have on my car and it's made a huge difference from the dyno tune I had previously.

a tune can really help bucking, i know a local guy with a T2 cam in his ls1 gto, it used to buck bad under 2K rpm, he retuned it and has it dialed in to where it has little to no bucking under 1500 rpm

The guys who are telling you to live with the bucking or that your LSA is too narrow have not enjoyed the benefits of a proper driveability tune. It takes hours and sometims days to perfect, but when it's right, you'll have little to no bucking below 1500. I go through 4 school zones every morning and I have to crawl 1100 rpm in 3rd gear. I can't have bucking so this was a real priority for me. Bottom line, the guys who are telling you it can't be done need to stand out of the way from the guys who are doing it.

A good lsx tuner and some real world tunning will reduce your bucking problems.
I have a very small cam but i can idle through a parking lot at 850 no bucking
