Default well im done for the year....408 piston came apart

I was changing the plugs in my car when the #7 plug was mashed so i pulled the head and the top of the piston came apart. also the same on the #5 not as bad. a few weeks ago at the tack i was costing and i heared at taping sound thought a lifter collapsed and puped back up.....ran fine no missfire or anything to make me think this. I was always looking for my loss of about 4mph and just thought the car was heavy. the motor only 400miles and 20 passes ....WHat whould have caused this.....Motor was Built my HPE and is only 11month old

Improperly gapped piston rings is a possibility were you spraying or power adder? The damage to the other piston was the result of the broken piece making its way into that cylinder.

never sprayed the car. After talking with chuck from Hpe on IM quick he said Piston are not under warante..Hes blaming it on the tune wich was Done by East Side.....seriously doubting that we did 3 cars the same day and mine has the least miles driven sense then and i have a problem? also the car was only 10.5 to 1 very mild setup.......

Nasty.
Who did the tune? Maybe too lean or something. Thats a known issue for #7.
(ie) Detonation?

your A/F is plenty safe, there, everyone is quick to blame a tuner, and that might not even be a engine builder fault either if its a defect in the piston, your gonna need to pull it apart further and check everything

but your car was tuned safe, of that i am positive

Pistons are black in the pics so it leads me to believe that something was wrong w/the motor itself...All tunes leave w/ moderate timing and conservative air fuel....Take a look at the pics. The tune looks good to me.

Was there a two step on the car?
I have seen a ring gland break from sitting on a two step too long.

What brand of piston? Looks like it suffered heavy detonation, but I know you said that wasn't it.

seriously how the heck is anyone claiming detonation without a pic of the other pistons? could you post a pic of the other pistons please? looks to me like the top ring got to hot butted and the corner of the piston paid the price.
corner of the piston went out the valves (look for bent ones not that that one head is good anymore) and the other piston got the load.

I highly doubt it was a tune issue, and I know Erik from HPE knows what he is doing as well.. I don't know how the other pistons look. Could possibly be a defective piston, was the car driven untuned at all? If so, that could also have stressed it some, I've seen that happen too and then have a problem later down the road.

I remember another sponsor had the same problem with pistons breaking just like yours. I bet they are the same pistons.
