Default How big can you bore out an iron block?

What it says. Is it safe to bore out an iron block more than 4.030?

Safely go 4.040. 4.050" and above you need to start sonic testing to make sure the material has no flaws. 4.060" is max with a block that passes sonic testing.

Hmmm... I guess this is why an iron block 408 is so popular.

Somehow I doubt that would last more than a minute. If sonic testing is required at 4.060", 4.125" would be far beyond pushing the limitations.

Search around and ask some vendors, you will be amazed.

Are you saying 4.125 in bore is not possible.

Can get the cylinder walls sonic tested and go from there. I know a local guy who did it using 6.0L iron block. Was throwing 250HP shot at it. It lasted for almost a full year.

The 6.0L LQ4 cylinders sleeves are not even 4.125" in diameters. The only way a LQ4 block can have a bore of 4.125" is if it has been resleeved. Period.

4.030 is it. There is not enough to go 4.125 without a sleeve. If they could go this much wouldn't this be the better route to go rather than a 4.00 stroke, yes. Trust me it can not be done without sleeves been there tried it.
