Default LS1-LS2 Conversion Problems....

I noticed that the ls2 engine has the oil filter mounted on the oil pan and the ls1 doesnt. is there a way i can use my ls1 oil pan and run a remote mount filter so i dont run into clearance problems??? i know 100% sure i cannot run the ls2 oil pan in my car.

Thats a GTO LS2, you need to put a oil pan that matches your chassis. You would need: LS1 oil pan, matching windage tray, and a oil pickup tube. If its going in a F-body, use a F-body pan and components, if its a C5, use a C5 pan and components, etc...

Pan is considered an integral part of the whole block on LSx motors. That is what I meant. As Joseph mentionned, each chassis will require their respective pan assemblies.
Pardon my halfbreed interpretation.

Does the windage tray bolt on with the main cap bolts or does it have seperate bolts? so basically unbolt my oil pan pickup tube and windage tray and bolt them to the ls2. is the dipstick tube in the same location on each motor?

I just dropped my LS1 out of my 04 GTO into a 98 TA. You will need to swap pan, windage tray and oil pickup tube. They are just held on with nuts at the end of the main studs. It is an easy swap...30 minutes figuring you need to clean everything up.

I don't know if it is true with the LS2, but my 04 LS1 uses a different starter than a normal LS1. This is something you may want to check into before you find out the hard way.

Good luck!

Galen

OOPS, I forgot the dipstick in the GTO is in the pan. They simply placed a plug in the normal hole for the Fbody dipstick. Just punch the plug out and put your dipstick in the hole.

good info! and also i beleive the conversion harness's they sell one for the knock sensor and one for the cam sensor that means i use the ls2 cam sensor and do i need the ls1 knock sensor? i beleive the ls2 looks like it has 2 knock sensors. the black sensor on the pic i posted shows one and there is one exactly like that on the other side.
