Default 2002 Camaro SS Heads and Cam Help!!!

It is time for me to do Heads and Cam; please help me with the best possible option for a weekend warrior that never sees the strip but is awsome on the road and when road racing mustangs or vipers. I would love to hear what you all have to say please. I am looking at a comp cam with 228/228 .588 .588 LSA 112 and CNC port and polished LS1 heads???

Thanks,

Mark

PRC Stg 1.5 LS6 Heads w/ Competition Valve Job, affordable and make great power.. and a nice midsized cam like an comp xer224 or even the 228 on a 114lsa or higher.

I was also looking at a TSP Torquer V3? Do you think that is too much for a port and polished LS1 Heads with Double springs?

You cant go wrong with the tsp torquer v3 excellent mid size cam for a heads and cam package. Great drivability manners and lots of torque. Thats what i have and i cant wait till a pick out some good heads and a fast 90/90/ for it!

something like the 228r or t2 or t3 will be a great street setup with a small velocity type runner.like as stated above=edelbrock, tsp terminator, afr 205,tfs 215,or the etp 215 will give you great torque with 400 rwtq, 450 rwhp potential through an m6 with all the boltons.

This is a hard decision because I want it to be awsome; I looked at the Edelbrocks and the AFR 205's. They both seem really good and no one saids what is better? If money was no object what heads would it be and why?

Both are a very good quality cylinder heads and I'm sure you will be happy either way. My suggestion is to determine what HP/Torque range you want to target and look for a cam and head package that is proven. Be sure to find look at complete HP and Torque curve and not just a high RPM max HP number; you want a broad, smooth curve that is going to deliver at all RPM.

Couldn't have said it better. While peak power is nice for a track car that will see 5500-6500+ almost all the time at the track, it's not very practical for street duty. Power under the curve is the key.

As you probably know, we have quite a few different camshafts to choose from. As mentioned, we want to make sure that you have the proper setup for what you're looking to do. Average power will outrun slightly higher peak power. Feel free to shoot me an e-mail at trevor@texas-speed.com with all of the mods on your car, and I'll be glad to e-mail you back with my recommendations. Or, if you prefer, you can e-mail me your phone number and I'll give you a call to discuss it with you. Our PRC LS6 heads are certainly proven to make great power, and we can set you up with a heads/cam package that would include your choice of camshaft, PRC stage 1.0 LS6 cylinder heads with our competition valve job, PRC dual valve spring kit with titanium retainers rated to .660" lift, and a set of TSP hardened pushrods for under $1,800! We can also tailor a package for you if you are looking to get other items at the same time such as a bolt and gasket kit, LS2 timing chain or Rollmaster timing set, ported LS6 oil pump, etc.

Thanks Trevor; I called you guys today and went with the Terminators actually. Do you think the PRC 200cc Terminators are better then the LS6 heads? I also am going with a 228/228 .588 .588 112 lsa.

Both cylinder heads work really well, but they target two different segments of the market. The Terminators are a small-runner design. They will offer better low-end power with better throttle response. These cylinder heads maintain excellent velocity and will work incredibly well with the setup you're putting together. With the 228/228 112 LSA camshaft, it's going to make for a very fun setup! The LS6 heads use a larger 237cc runner size. The added port volume is better suited for more aggressive setups. The LS6's still make great average power and retain more low-end performance than most expect, but the Terminators were built with low-end power and overall velocity in mind. I'm going to install a set of Terminators on my LS2 Trailblazer SS. It weighs 4,900 lb., and low-end and average power is crucial!

Let us know if you have any other questions or concerns.
