243 pat heads; comp Cams roller rockers; stock valve cover compatability problem
Has anyone come across this issue?
I have installed 243 Patriot Performance heads and Comp Cams 1.85 roller rockers (part # CC875-16) AND the stock valve covers do not fit !!!!!!!!
I am so upset right now I cant explain my feelings right now. I just dont know what to do. It has taken me two weeks working by myself to get to this point. I just cant believe the valve covers wont fit.
What is the appropriate fix for my problem?
I have 7.4" push rods, shorter ones may work, but is that the way to go?
Please help.

Calm down, be more specific. Where are they hitting?
I do know that with the Comp magnums, some grinding is necessary on some years.
Like the baffle, but I can't remember if it is driver or passenger.
See if you can PM Unnafiliatedracing, he does or used to work for Comp.

On the drvrs side, the top of the rocker adjuster nut hits the metal insert inside the valve cover. I have busted that metal sheet away, but the nut now hit the bottom side of the valve cover. For the stock valve cover to fit, I will have to drill 8 holes thru the valve cover. Nice thought, but I'm not going to be that desparate.
On the pass side, I THINK that the two black boxes interfer with the rocker arms.
, but not sure yet where the interference is.
I have a '99 Camaro SS with full EGR stuff.
Does someone make a taller valve cover for LS1 engines?

Yea, thats just great! Comp Cams ad in Chevy High Performance states that their roller rockers fit under the stock valve covers.
Has anyone tried the TFS valve cover spacers? (0.5" high spacers)

Look at some of the pictures on my web site regarding the removal of the baffles in the valve covers. I believe that the statement by Comp was true when they first made it back in the late 1990's. The initial '97 and '98 heads had a perimeter bolt pattern for the valve covers and the fit and clearance was different than with Model year 1999 (and after) center-bolt covers.
All of the aftermarket rocker arms with roller tips have this same issue. Look at the GMHTP article in the current issue about clearancing the valve covers for the ETP heads. This is why many of the new head designs like the Patriot Predator (and others) are raising the height of the heads to allow more clearance. With a little work, you can get the rockers to clear without adding valve cover spacers.
