cam for road race/street LS1
I plan on buying a LS1 Z28 M6, and calling Strano and getting all the suspension done, then wheels/tires and brakes.
after that, I want to install a cam (THEN, WAY WAY down the road ported LS6 heads)
anyway, I would like 400+ rwhp but I need a cam that will make the MOST torque from the 3000-5000 rpm range. the engine will be in that band the most.
I would like to have almost 400 rwtrq as well.
im thinking a 224 .581 112 or a 228/232, 110+2
thanks

Check out something like TR's "Old Man" cam. That sucker should provide a wide power band with lots of low to mid range grunt. Add the LS6 heads and bolt-ons and you'd reach 400. The Comp XE-R 224 112 is another good one but it might be a little more peaky than what you're asking for.

Take your time deciding and do lots of research.
PS Since the site's search engine is down, you can use Google to search for LS1tech threads. There's lots of info on here.
Good luck.

thanks! what I mean though, is 400rwhp before i ever do heads...
I plan on doing LT's, custom 3" duals over axle, pulley, LS6 intake, ported TB before the cam though

The 230/224 is killer midrange torque, and would seemingly fit your goals of making 400rwhp (or close to it). It'll make the midrange power of a 224/224 112, but extend the powerband further. Do a search for this grind. There are several people running it on this board and making some really sick numbers with it.

I'm a little biased, but I really like GM's ASA cam. It has a very flat torque curve, heres a link to my graph CLICK HERE!

Don't fall for peak numbers. You said you wanted mid range performance. I think the "Old Man cam" spends more time above 350 ft-lbs than any of the cams mentioned so far. I don't think there is such a cam that will give you a peak number over 400rwhp, without heads, and still be worth a poop in midrange rpm.

The above linked graph features: a 2000 LS1 TransAM with Thunder Racing 215/220, 115 lsa camshaft with stock cylinder heads. Other mods include Hooker longtube headers w/ off-road pipe, cutout, Whisper Lid, LS6 intake manifold, Thunder Racing ported throttle body, ASP Pulley, and stock rear end w/ 3.42 gears. The only things that were changed were the camshaft, Comp 918 valve springs, titanium retainers, Thunder Racing 7.400" pushrods, and the ASP pulley.)

Be careful you don't end up with a drag cam. Choose wisely.
