Default TSP408: LS6 oil pump wont fit!

got my old motor out tonight, and started adding parts to the 408. the new LS6 pump touches the chain and doesnt make contact with the block so it touches the double timing chain set, and not the block. anybody ever ran into this?

this should help...

Could you put spacers or something in there?

Yea, there's some little alluminum spacers used for the double timing chain. I had my cam installed at TSP and a LS6 ported oil pump and now that i'm inside my ingine, there's these little alluminum spacers for the oil pump to clear the timing chain. Kinda weird, but that's how it's done, I figured the timing chain would have come with them. Guess not, I'd call TSP for some.

The double chain should have came with the spacer's.Also when you put the timing chain cover back on it might hit the pump. What I had to do was grind some of the pump and the cover so it would fit.Just be careful not to grind to much..................Paul

Exactly. And make dam sure you dont put the spacers in wrong! And add a little permatex rtv so that it makes a nice seal.

Heres the shims when I built my 347

and heres the shims on our 427 installed. You will have to grind on the timing cover case! Use whiteout to make your marks and go to grinding. If you have a meiling oil pump it will not fit! At least on a vette cover. Since the balnce is alot clser than a f body. All tought I dont think it will work on a f boat but if you grind enuff it might.

Put RTV on the spacer that has the hole for the oil to go thu the block! The triangle looking one. Make sure you put it in right and dont flip it backwards it will cut off flow.

There's 4 bolts and 2 SPACER'S. One of the spacer's looks like a triangle that fits the part you circled.Look at post #8 above it show's you a picture of the spacer...............Paul
