Heres a better option-

SDPC forged pistons kit - for stock size crank and rods AND includes main and rod bearings, ARP bolts, and rings all for $600!

Or they have another set of only the pistons and rings for $500

You can get a set of Mahle forged pistons, rings and wrist pins for under 500 from a couple sponsors.

There's a reason that nobody is carrying the stock pistons. Because it's not worth rebuilding with them.

88984245 - is the part number for stock pistons, they are like $70 a piece, so 70 x 8 = $560 also that does not include rings either...so just go forged

He would acually need part number 88984246 if hes not using a new block as this is the factory oversize pistons (+0.010) and theyre 76 each so hes looking at 608 for the set. Then factory rings are 126. Thats 735 for a stock pistons and rings. You should easily find a set of aftermarket pistons for less than that with rings.

Simply put, you dont.

Get the mahle on the cheap. Think about upgrading rods with inexpensive forged pieces too and have a damn stout shortblock for quite cheap.

Sealed Power pistons from Rockauto.com are $37 each. A full set of rings is ~$124. Sealed Power forged pistons are ~$86. FYI

Scat makes a set of forged I beams for around 275. That with the Mahles comes to 775 for forged pistons and rods, or 734 for just stock replacement pistons with the rods you already have. Plus he would get the valve reliefs.
