Default Change Springs or Not to Change Springs

I currently have a turbo'd 408 with a small 220 224 581 581 114 lsa cam. I have comp 918s in the car right now. We are going to start running more boost on the high setting between 15-18 psi. I have heard that the higher boost can actually hold open the valves will that be an issue with the 918's or should I go with a dual spring?

If I need to go with the dual spring whats the favorite these days?

Thanks,

Kane

crane #144833-16, or #26921-16 springs. i would strongly recommend going to a double spring with 135+ seat pressures at 1.800.

I would use the patriot golds, they are a dual valve spring and have titan retainers. They are the best for the money IMO. You are going to pay at least twice as much with the 921's.

PSI makes a great beehive spring if you want to go that route.

I have to agree with you on that one, I'm more partial to the Comp 921s (#26921-16).

The harmonic control of those has been well studied by Comp.

Whatever you do, do NOT get 832 springs by Crane - get the 833's. Those solve the harmonic issue the 832's had, I know well and so does Vettenuts haha.

all harmonic issues with crane 144832 springs have been corrected for more than a year now. any crane cams dealers will sell you #144832 or #144833 springs. vinci has them in stock, as well as other sponsors. i have personaly used both of these springs in many ls series engines, and have had no problems what so ever. but for your application, i would use #144833-16 springs.

Vinci has them >>>>>>>

I think they call them "Extreme", but they are on their web site. You can shoot Joe Vinci an e-mail to confirm. They are less than the Comps in price too if I remember correctly.

I coulda swore I got mine for like, $170...but I could be wrong. I got 832's right before 833's came out, unfortunately.

This is a no brainer duals all the way for that much boost on the aftermarket cam. Comp 921s if you can afford them otherwise Patriots newest gold versions, etc., etc., and your good to go!

I am just trying to figure out if I can get away with just buying the springs instead of the whole kit. Since I have 918s on there now will all the other hardware work with the new dual crane springs?

Your 918's are beehive style, won't work with the duals.

Thanks 98REd.

So the next question is I can get Patriot Golds kit for $279.50 and the Crane 144833 kit for $439.99. Is the it worth paying the $160.00 more for the Crane's?

Kane
